URGENT -- Garland Public Shooting Range
Apparently, there are some homeowners who are complaining about the Garland Public Shooting range as it disturbs their peace and quiet. The range has been at its current location since 1969 and houses have sprung up around it over the course of time.
Neighbors are apparently complaining to their city council members trying to get the range shut down. If you live in Garland, please get involved by contacting your council person. I like shooting at outdoor ranges, as do others and I would hate to see this range closed.
Mods, I might should have posted this on the ranges page, but I wanted many people to see it so I placed it here.
Semper fi,
Bob

This is the same thing that happened in McKinney. If they persist and get the council to support their position, then this range will also be history...
I place these same complainers in the category of people that have moved near Love Field and now complain that the airplanes are noisy.

Garland Range
I think they are a sister range to Leander. Folks shouldn't have bought there if they thought they were moving to a quiet community.
Since the McKinney shutdown, Texas Legislature has passed law protecting ranges. They are safe unless they were incorporated into Garland before 1981.CHL/LEO wrote:This is the same thing that happened in McKinney. of course, suburban sprawl will increase land value. Only a matter of time before it is worth it to sell out.

Yeah, and the primary complainer in McKinney was not even a resident of the city. Actually I think McKinney pursued it because they want that land for the airport expansion.CHL/LEO wrote:This is the same thing that happened in McKinney. The same thing is happening at NAS Fort Worth JRB (also known as Carswell Air Force Base) in west Fort Worth. They sold off the area that used to be "Base Housing" and now businesses, apartments and housing developments are popping up. Now they are complaining of the F-16s and F-18s that fly there daily. Ugh!
Man they still fly out of there. I thought that got closed up awhile back. I remember going to the free air shows out there all the time. Saw the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angles there. Great times.propellerhead wrote:The same thing is happening at NAS Fort Worth JRB (also known as Carswell Air Force Base) in west Fort Worth. That sucks when people have to move into an area and complain about buisnes tha have been there for longer than they have been born.

That is also one of the reasons one of my old bases closed. Mather AFB in California had been there since about 1916 or so! People look at houses on weekends then complain about the work week noise.propellerhead wrote:The same thing is happening at NAS Fort Worth JRB (also known as Carswell Air Force Base) in west Fort Worth. I had talked with one of the RO's there once and they stated that the current range would be closing and they'd be reopening not far from there with a longer rifle range. I think it was even on the same road.
I was there one day and an officer came in and stated someone claimed to have gotten peppered with shotgun BB"s. The RO told them if that's true, they'd like to press charges for trespassing. Good for them. I hope they win this battle. There's too many ranges that have already closed in the past few years.
