Light Contour Shotgun Barrels with Heavy Shot

Post by Crash »

I have a Remington 11-87 Premier, 12 gauge, with a light contour barrel. Is it OK to use heavy turkey loads with this barrel or should I replace it with a heavier contour barrel?

Lena,

Thanks, appreciate the help. Don't use steel, so I guess it's OK.

1187's were introduces after steel and really do not have thin wall thickness as the A5's or M12 does, steel shot can bridge and cause a problem in the larger sizes, I have a R1100 32" waterfowl model 3" full fixed choke with .041 constriction that patterns 100% at 40 yds, it was not made for steel and last year I called Remington on it, they said stay with 3's or smaller and your fine in steel. I have shot 100's of 3" BB's at geese with this gun in the past with not any problems, shoot lead and your good to go.
