Sigh ....The gunman had two small-caliber handguns and one 9 mm semiautomatic machine pistol with a large magazine, McCracken said.
Sounds like one of them assault pistols

Gotta love the media and Chief Dave, bit of a misnomer - if it's a machine pistol similar to the Glock 18 shouldn't it read automatic as opposed to semiautomatic.Liberty wrote:Sigh ....The gunman had two small-caliber handguns and one 9 mm semiautomatic machine pistol with a large magazine, McCracken said.

Above is a small church, just a little smaller than our country church. This is why we have a threat response plan that stretches from a general distrubance by a rude someone interrupting a service because they dont like what the preacher has said, through a fight, through a shooting.
We now have 4 WELL TRAINED CHL holder & 2 more coming aboard shortly. They each have an area assignment & not only are trained in where they are able to shoot if necessary but also know the 21 ft rule can work for OUR advantage.
One of the CHL holder defenders is young & fast. The 2 coming aboard as CHLers are the same & know that there has never been a return fire resolution to a church shooting yet. They each know that w/in 15 ft for sure they can tackle an armed intruder faster than they can get to a gun. We are practicing that too.
I learned a long time ago that your gun is not ALWAYS the best first reach.

Think about this. We Christians believe that our Lord & Savior will protect us, and we, for the most part believe that the House of God is the most protective place to be. A terrorist, who has any intelligence will realize that not only are there a lot of folks in a small area, but those folks are not expecting the terrorist to be there. He would also feel that church folk would not be armed. The fallout on the community would be devestating.....I can hear the cries..."If we are not safe in Gods House....where are we safe".Venus Pax wrote:Why?stroo wrote:I figure church is one of the most dangerous places I go every week.
I am very active in my church and I carry there. My first prayer is that I never have to use my CCW, but if the situation presents itself.....well!!

Venus,
I live in a pretty safe city, Coppell, work in a pretty secure environment, do not drive through high crime areas to get to work, do not go to bars or strip clubs or other high crime areas. On the other hand, every so often there are attacks on schools and churches. So I figure the two most dangerous places I go are my kids' school and church. Given the statistics on school and church shootings, I don't really believe either are very dangerous places, just more dangerous than anyplace else I go.

I guess I can understand it when you put it in those terms, stoo. I guess my thinking is that I'm armed at church, and so are a few other members. I feel that we could at least have a chance if anything were to happen there.
School is a different story.

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.
