Legal question regarding purchases at a gun show...
... In Oklahoma.
If I go to a gun show north of the Red River, am I able to purchase a firearm from a dealer, including background check, then bring it back home - or do I need to have it sent to an FFL in TX to be transferred?
I know a private party would need a transfer, because I believe it would become a transfer over state lines. My question specifically pertains to purchases at a dealer, with a background check.
FWIW, I have NOT done this before posing the question.

A handgun will have to go through an FFL in Texas, Long guns can be purchased via an FFL in Oklahoma but your Texas CHL will not exempt you from NICs there.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

You can purchase a gun from anyone out of state. They just can't transfer it directly to you unless they're an FFL and it's a long gun. Anything else they would have to ship to a Texas FFL for transfer to you (basically like an internet sale except you get to fondle the gun before you buy it.)

You can purchase a rifle or shotgun OTC from an OK FFL. The dealer will do a 4473/NICS check (Your Texas CHL does not bypass NICS in OK).TexasJohnBoy wrote:... In Oklahoma.

Everything else must be shipped to an FFL in Texas.

Well that is kind of a bummer. Go fondle your new gun, hand it back so you can pay for shipping, to pick it up in texas and pay an FFL.
I guess I'll just stick to Texas shows for stuff then.

I bought my M4 in Kansas a few years ago, while visiting family, and took it with me after the store made the call to NICS and I was cleared. No muss no fuss and I think I even shot it the same day.

If I run across a long gun at a show in OK, I will keep it in mind. I actually not looking for anything specific; I just made a generalization in my last post I suppose... Thanks all

Are you saying that any handgun I have which has been purchased here in Texas, I can't move to Virginia and take it with me without getting it transfered through an FFL?

No if you already own it you can take it with you, it is not a transfer unless it is between two people. (buyer/seller)
