Firearms on School District Property

Post by casp625 »

Came across the Texas Association of School Boards' policy on firearms. Didn't see it posted elsewhere and has been updated March 2016 with relatively accurate information. Few things I found of interest:

Firearm Possession by Other Campus Visitors, Including Parents: (see last paragraph)
Argument against this logic found here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=82361&p=1052074&hil ... l#p1052074

School-sponsored activities: (TASB stating school drop off may be "school sponsored activity")

From 46.03...

"...(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private, unless:
(A) pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the institution; or
(B) the person possesses or goes with a concealed handgun that the person is licensed to carry under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, and no other weapon to which this section applies, on the premises of an institution of higher education or private or independent institution of higher education, on any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by the institution is being conducted, or in a passenger transportation vehicle of the institution;..."

Note what follows after the bolded section:
...on the premises of an institution of higher education or private or independent institution of higher education, on any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by the institution is being conducted, or in a passenger transportation vehicle of the institution;...
That is the campus carry provision and is effective 08/01/16. His question is about school districts. That section does not change primary and secondary schools and school districts.
Noted.

No questions. Just passing along information that the TASB is distributing to their schools regarding firearms, LTC, etc.

And the regs for institutions of higher learning and all other schools have subtle differences which in some ways will consolidate after August 1 and in other ways will be even more different.
