Per the story, he saw a man shoot a woman, went to his car and got his gun then confronted the man out in the parking lot, trying to make a citizens arrest and was gunned down. Problems with this based only on what was mentioned here
1) Should have had it on his person
2) Be a good witness, not a casualty. You are not a LEO.
3) be more vigilant of your surroundings. never take your eyes off of anyone in this type of circumstance.
4) If you pull your weapon, be prepared to use it.
