Was This Guy Really A Constable?

Post by Abraham »

Last week I was in Sam's Discount store, El Dorado and Hwy 45 location, to see what appeared to be real Constable, but wearing some very odd head gear. He sported a black, polyester looking Doo-Rag with that funny looking bit of cloth hanging down in back.

In large, block letters, the word CONSTABLE was printed on the front of this thing, worn just above his eyebrows. His uniform looked real and he was carrying what looked like a Glock.

I cant' identify him any further. To say I was disgusted by his attire is to under state it. This type headgear is what most identifies thugs.

I suppose his uniform could be fake as well as his sidearm.

Has anyone else here witnessed this "maybe" Constable and if so, is he really a Constable or some nut case?

The ONLY...and I mean ONLY reason I have ever witnessed a (non-undercover) LEO wear a doo-rag was during a tactical callout while everyone was in full gear and helmets. If you have little or no hair and have ever worn a PASGT, or similar helmet, you know why. ***EDIT*** after seeing the post below, I will add that I have also witnessed LEO's in doo-rags at Paintball and Simunition Trainings.

I could see a Motorjock weraing one with the heat we have, but I would be shocked to see them not remove it along with their MC helmet.

With that said, it is possible.....maybe... doubtful, but maybe....that he is a little thin up top and his Dept. has approved them. I'm afraid that if he approached me in an "official" capacity....I would laugh. It might end up getting me arrested in the end, but I would laugh, and carry on with my business.

It would put you at a BIG disadvantage having sweat rolling down in your eyes when a problem arises, but I would think that a Ball Cap would be a far more socially acceptable alternative.

Call the Constable's Office and make an inquiry about "appropriate" attire for their Deputy Constables, and express your concerns.

Do you mean that it was something like what you'd wear under a helmet? Like this? http://www.paintballgames.co.uk/images/ ... ll-Rio.jpg

txinvestigator,

I now couldn't tell you as it's been a week or so since I saw this individual. I can say his uniform fit him to a tee, very clean cut, professional looking guy. He was somewhere in the 5'10" to 6' tall range and probably weighed 200 plus pounds and looked very fit. I'd rough guess his age at 27 to maybe 30.

Frankly, if he hadn't been wearing that very offensive black, poly or silk doo-rag, I would've instantly believed he was the real thing. Oh yeah, the word CONSTABLE was printed in highly visible, contrasting letters on the front of it.

I just got off the phone with two different Constable offices who work that area and they don't know of any of their officers wearing such head gear.

He appeared to be shopping and not working there.

I did manage from one aisle away to make eye contact and his wasn't friendly. I know I must've looked puzzled and admittedly was staring to confirm what my eyes couldn't believe they seeing.

If I see him again I will talk to him and ask him what office he works out of.

P.S. But only if we're inside a public building. I've a gut feeling this guy aint what he wants you to think he is...

Huh...Interesting. Have you used them before? I'm wondering how well some of those models might work for other purposes, like when I go out for a run in 100 degree weather.

I use a similar product (don't remember the exact name) that I bought at Academy a couple of years ago. As I recall it was less than $5.00. I use it when playing golf in 100 degree, 90% humidity, south Texas summers. Works well.

Lots of our bicycle officers wear these and so do some of our SWAT officers. When they take their helmets off these usually come off too unless they're training and not in contact with the public. Our bike and SWAT officers have authorized ball caps to wear when they're not wearing their helmets.

They are great. They have some sort of polymer in them that looks like salt....until it gets wet. A tablespoon of that stuff will soak up a WHOLE GLASS of water!! It swells up the grains to kinda resemble a gel. This is what provides the evaporative cooling effect of the garment. As the stuff dries out, over the course of several hours...it shrinks back down.

They used to carry neck wraps with similar properties at Grainger, not sure if they still do though.

+1 to what he said. These things DO work! Soak them in ice water and they keep you nice and cool for awhile.
