Driving on military base
Moderator: carlson1
I doubt that this would ever come up, but: could you be held reponsible for federal/military laws/regs when traveling over public highways that traverse military reservations?
Suppose, for instance, you were travelling on Tex 36 where it is within Ft. Hood just south of Gatesville, and had a collision with a military vehicle while legally armed; could you be charged with a federal offense?
I thought that maybe I could be entitled to one dumb "what-if" occasionally.

Just got back from Ft. Bliss in El Paso. "Civilian" with gun on base is "NO" I spent a couple hours talking to various ranges, gun clubs, El Paso PD, On post and Off post MPs, and finally talked with the El Paso Law Enforcement Training Facility at the community college. They agreed to let me use one of their lockers. I just had to bring my own lock. No other fees though.
My advise is contact the base and if they say no, Start calling around the area you are visiting. Start with the Police Department. They should be able to give you some decent advice on who to call if they wont let you store it with them. On you way into town store it. On your way out pick it up. I was on base amlost the entire time that weekend.
Good Luck!!

I just got word yesterday that my deer hunting plans are canceled this year.
There's a new commander at Red River Army Depot, and he has shut down hunting for everyone except for RRAD employees and military. It had been shut down to the general public since 9/11, but they allowed local and federal law enforcement to hunt.
Guess I'll go slogging through the Corps of Engineers land this year...
