Does anyone know if Texas law would prohibit tactical lights with strike bezels such as the SureFire E2D Defender? Would this be considered an illegal club?

PC §46.01. DEFINITIONS. In this Chapter:
(1) "Club" means an instrument that is specially designed, made,
or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by
striking a person with the instrument, and includes but is not limited to
the following:
(A) blackjack;
(B) nightstick;
(C) mace;
(D) tomahawk.

This is one of those items that would depend on how you used it and your attitude when it was found by the officer if not used. Since it is primarily a flashlight, I don't think you would have any problems carrying it, but I could see an officer harassing you with it if you had a bad attitude about other things.

Of course, after Sep. 1, I believe you will be OK with it in your car.

You're fine. I have carried one for awhile and take it on planes ALOT.
Never any hassle, except in Sweden, I traded the border guard the one I
had for his issued duty knife!

FWIW, I've carried my E1L Outdoorsman Surefire :



thru airport security onto a plane several times, into a courthouse, into Hoover Dam, as well as several other "restricted areas". Nobody has ever done any more than want to see it turned on (and I still chuckle remembering the one TSA woman who blinded herself for a moment by turning it on while staring down the business end of the light).

I think it'd be a hard legal argument to consider a Surefire any more of an "illegal club" than any other flashlight, regardless of it's bezel design.

If anyone ever questions the bezel, my understanding is that it's designed that way to keep the light from overheating if accidently placed lit end down while on..

Thanks for the response but as you can see the E2D is a lot more aggressive and has been advertised as a CQB weapon; which gave me cause for concern.
