Resident/Non-Resident CHL
Hello all. I'm a newbie on this site and kind of new to Texas. We moved here in October 2015 and I have yet to get my Texas DL...I know, don't judge too hard...life has been crazy! LOL I want to get my CHL, but from what I understand I need to be an "official" Texas resident for 6 months before I can apply. Is my DL the "official" proof of my tenure or would a lease suffice? Are there any ways around getting my CHL if the DL is needed for 6 months prior to applying? I thought I've seen a non-resident license here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no longer a 6 month requirement for residency. But, you will need to have your driver license changed over before they will issue you a resident LTC. As for proof of residency, the DL will be all you need with your Texas address on it.

Welcome to Texas 
and the forum. No judgement here either BUT, get your license changed over ASAP. Texas LEOs, while pretty nice, are not really known for their sense of humor.

Thanks for the response. I know we need to get our DL's changed over...always forget until something like this comes up. We were really short on funds when we first moved here... We were missionaries in South Africa for the past 5 years, so we're really starting all over from scratch and not making a fortune while trying to do it. Thanks again.
