You'll be fine. You feel like you are doing something wrong the first time that you do it. The folks behind the counter are well trained and you should not get any feedback other than asking if it is unloaded, locked, and how it is packed.

Definitely check state regulations. In some states, the airport carry is prohibited even outside of the secure area. In states where airport carry is legal, I usually go to the bathroom and holster my gun before leaving for the rental shuttle.

Wearing an empty holster through security also isn't an issue. I never take mine off. The body scanners don't pick up items on your sides. 99% of the time, the holster isn't even seen on the scanner. Sure makes it easier to holster and go quickly when carrying IWB.

Do not pack loaded mags inside the box if flying AA. The TSA doesn't care, but American will confiscate your ammo unless it is in a plastic or cardboard box with slots for the individual rounds.

Don't ask me how I know... :banghead:

I didn't check back to see where someone mentioned that above, so now I have a weight I can throw at someone when I land.

United isn't an issue. I fly United frequently with loaded mags inside a soft mag pouch. You just need to make sure the top round is covered. Some airlines have different policies. You're good to go with United though.

I left yesterday on united and everything was fine until I got to my destination :/ my checked in bags didn't make it on my direct flight so that kinda started my vacation off , knowing I had my firearm checked I just couldn't wait until they delivered it to check on it - thank God everything was there .

At the counter the agent know how to handle firearm declaration and he tapped the declaration on top of my lockbox . Of course I had that locked and inside my checked bag with another lock on the outside . The lock box secured via wire with the inside of my bag so if that bag didn't show up I knew what happened . The bags arrived 5 hours after I arrived .

Today on vacation I tried to work on my situational awareness wne keeping my family close to me while in crowds . I know a firearm will not keep me 100% safe but it did make me feel good about having something on me in a life threatening situation .

In another topic - I do carry a round in the chamber and I actually today for the first time "topped " my G26 so had 11 rounds . I am still trying to get used to having a round .
