UTA just released its *"official"* campus carry restrictions

Post by surferdaddy »

Just got an email detailing UTA's campus carry policy. Here is a copy of their restrictions.

*Areas that provide counseling and health services: Social work building — Complex B, Ransom Hall third floor and Health Services building.

*Areas that provide childcare: Transforming Lives Child Development Center.

*Sporting events: College Park Center, Maverick Stadium, Allen Saxe Field and Clay Gould Ballpark.

*Special use zones: Maverick Activities Center, Physical Education Building, The Testing Center — University Hall and university-owned resident halls participating in summer camps.

Thankfully they are not implementing the silly no chambered round thing.

Probably should have titled it their "official" policy as they have been narrowing it down for some time. This came to me in my student email, I assume it is their final word on the subject. I was a little disappointed at some exclusion zones but happy that they didn't include others which had been rumored. I am a science guy and was dreading all labs being off limits; this would have basically ensured I couldn't carry on campus. I am also glad that someone must have gotten through to them about the chambered round thing...that was a ridiculous idea.

UTD just released their email as well. I sent a reply back to them regarding their definition of "printing" as a punishable offense, everything they recommended seems to be in line with current laws, and are reasonable given the facilities we have up here, so we will see what happens.

"…we will see what happens." Hopefully nothing, I expect that this will be a non issue.

I haven't kept track of UTA that much, been watching the TAMU rules. How would someone enforce the no chambered round? If it was open carry, maybe a LEO could come ask you, but if you are concealed? Glad that didn't make it in.
Here at TAMU, they made a no-carry rule about labs where an accidental discharge could cause catastrophic failure, such as a room that contains gas bottles. Which is 90% of labs on campus. Since entire buildings can't be considered 30.06 (IIRC), then there will be signs on almost every door in our Chemistry building.

I was surprised to see that at least certain labs were not off limits, no way I would carry around the NMR. As far as labs that have hazardous materials like liquid bromine, I wouldn't worry about it.

Not to say I would want a lung full of bromine, just saying that the danger is in the event of a discharge which is very unlikely and would likely be followed by an emergency evac. Now, NMRs freak me about a bit, I could see my Glock going through something to get in there.

Yeah, considering I usually even leave keys in the other room, no way I would want a firearm around an NMR lab. That sort of falls under the common sense thing though. lol

People at A&M are trying to use any type of compressed gas to get their room off limits at this point.

I received a minor in chemistry from A & M. My only concern with any compressed gases we had in labs would be someone sheeting the valve off a cylinder and sending it flying.

Now someone is going to read this and get that idea. You've ruined it for everyone now. lol.

On the flip side though, it would put out any fire the bullet could potentially start, almost instantly.
