holsters and Kimber, Wilson, Nighthawk?

After a visit to Collectors Firearms (man do I love that place) I tried a Galco owb and stuck a 3" Kimber in her. Wow it was almost not there. They also had the Tucker HF1 but not for the small kimber.

Now I guess I will sell my Baby Eagle and XD , my wife would not be happy with me to continue to add to my collection

After wearing the Galco, it was the model with snaps SIDE SNAP SCABBARD I tried a 4" Kimber in the Galco CONCEALABLE BELT HOLSTER with non snap belt loops and it does hug you a little tighter but of course you must remove the belt to unholster.

So, now which Kimber ?? 3" or 4" I have heard FTF issues with certain models?? I really like the 3" compactness but is the 4 much more accurate. Nights sights?? laser grip??



Can someone help choose my pistol , i really like the raptor 3" but


After visiting again, I have really had my eye on several new pistols that were not on my list. I am not sure about the Kimber but would love a Wilson KZ for 1365.00 or Nighthawk IV, or T3. ain't shopping great

Anyone have experience with Wilson or Nighthawk, specifically these above, looking at 3-4 in range. The Wilson KZ is 9+1, wow!! not so crazy about polymer but the price is right

I have the Kimber Ultra Carry II in stainless and I love it. I had couple of FTF when it was new in the first 100 rounds that were shot through it. But now after having approximately 750 rounds shot through it I never have anymore. I even went about 300 rounds with out cleaning it and it still functioned perfectly. My only complaint with it is needing that special wire tool to take it apart to clean it.

mine has never FTF/FTE in about 600 rds (its new as well). I call the special little tool a paperclip. Fits right in the hole.

Yeah, I know its a paperclip or something similar. I just wish you could just take it apart like a regular 1911 without having to use a paperclip. I can see me having to field strip it for some reason and not having a paperclip.

I have two Kimbers in the 3 inch size that I carry. One is a stainless Ultra and the other is an Ultra CDP. Both have been very reliable with no failures due to the pistol, and I’ve fired many different rounds through them, both factory and reloads. The CDP is my wife’s preferred carry weapon.

As for the shorter sight radius, I don’t worry much about that since most self defense engagements will happen at very close distances…many at bad breath distance…so I don’t think it will matter. If I'm target shooting and I need accuracy, that's what I have Colt Goldcups for

One advantage to 4 inch over 3 is the increased muzzle velocity, which equates into higher probability of expansion, and deeper penetration.

But the 3 inch is so easy to conceal… and there is ammo on the market now that’s made for the shorter barrels and seems to have good expansion.

In my opinion, either length is a respectable self defense weapon.

As for night sights, I thought the Ultra’s came with them? But I guess I could be wrong…

Many folks really like lasers. I picked up a set of Crimson Trace’s and put them on my Ultra and Les Baer 45’s, but ended up taking them off. I found them to actually slow me down as I looked for the laser. But that was just me, as I said, many swear by them. If you can, I would suggest you find someone who has lasers and give them a try on the range before you put your money down. They’re not exactly cheap! Be sure to try them in a defensive role, not just target shooting on a square range.

Txrancher, how do you like your Baer, I am now interested in Wilson, Baer,Ed Brown or Nighthawk, but if money becomes an issue which with two kids it usually does i will pursue the Kimber

I like my Les Baer. It's a fine weapon...very accurate and a trigger that's second to none. It's typically my choice for competitions.

I do carry it periodically as my concealed carry, but the Kimbers represent my primary 1911 carry weapons. I find their weight easier to take for all day carry...
