I sent in a request for my wife's renewal license.
DPS received payment on May 14, 2016.
She still has not received her renewal license as of July 22, 2016.
Nothing has changed since she first received the original license.
The Status page still shows her background check and finger prints are "pending".
Mine took less than six weeks to get back.
In the meantime hers has expired and she's PO'ed.
After 20 plus years of being common law we actually got married.
I read here not to try and change her name while the application is being processed, but to wait until afterwards to change the name.
Could this be a problem, and does anyone know how to fix it?

It's now August 13th and still no license and no replies to emails.
It's been over 60 days.
Wife to call Monday.

I have written them and called them many times. They keep saying they'll have someone call me when I call, and when I write I get the generic "Your application is still under review." -- Even though I keep telling them that they have received all the information and has all the information since March 30th, and are now violating the law since they only had 30 days to issue a renewal. But I can't seem to get anywhere with these people!! Help???

I submitted my complete packet minus the fingerprints as they were a separate entity on March 19th. Last week I received word that my LTC review was completed and my card was mailed out.

I too submitted my emails, which of course were never answered. I also called numerous times and was told the same thing. Under Review. A gentleman chimed in and suggested that I contact my State Rep, which I did.

I spoke with his PAO a couple of times over the course of about 2 weeks. I can't be for sure that it was his doing or what, but I received a call from a DPS investigator last week who took a look at my paperwork and told me that everything checked out and I should receive my LTC in about 7-10 days.

So, to sum up, I would either call DPS and politely request a call from an investigator, or give your state representative a call. Cheers!

Finally. Status updated today with mailed.

All in on renewal - 4/22.

I think what delayed mine was they needed an updated pic. For non-residents they don't have a state DL/ID pic to pull. Just wish they'd figured that out before 60 days had passed and before I had a state rep email.

I submitted my application on June 30 and received my confirmation of supplemental documents on July 6. Background check is still pending and it's been over a month. On the other hand, my husband submitted his application and got his confirmation on August 3 and his license is pending print as of yesterday (one week). I have no complicated background and no criminal charges of any type. I have no idea why mine is taking so long and i need advice on who to call to find out (or push it through faster). Any advice?

They do have 60 days to process. Also, if you have any arrest ever, that slows stuff down a lot too.

Did the same on April 22nd. Mine finally mailed this week. Took an email from a state rep to DPS to get things unclogged.

My original CHL back in 2009 took 60 days to get.

Since I moved away from TX for 2 years, I had to obtain a new license when I moved back. Below is my timeline for the LTC.

From the time I submitted all of the documentation until it was "mailed" was 6 weeks exactly. This is actually 2 weeks quicker than it was in 2009.

Everything submitted online to DHS: 6/28/16
Application Status Change: 6/30/16 All Green, Awaiting Background Check
Application Status Change: 08/08/16 Background Check Complete, Print Pending
Application Status Change: 08/11/16 Mailed
Plastic In Hand: WAITING

I had called DHS on 7/29 and they told me the FBI was the long pole in the tent, and it was taking on average 6-10 weeks for DHS to get everything back from the FBI.
