Where Do You Put It In Your Hotel Room?

Post by thatguyoverthere »

When staying overnight in a motel or hotel, where do you keep your SD firearm when you turn in for the night?

A hotel/motel situation may be unique for some, in that there may be other people (in other rooms) on any side of you, and even possibly above or below you. That being the case, are you concerned at all that your loaded firearm may be inadvertently pointed at someone in another room?

What if you have young children in the room with you?

Any other concerns regarding safety or security of your firearm in your hotel room?

Mine stays in the same place when I'm in bed whether I'm at home or in a hotel. In the holster on the nightstand next to my phone and flash light.

:iagree: My pistol does not come alive at night and fire itself. ;-) It is no more of a danger to neighbors in a hotel than it is to neighbors at home.

I have this thing that I got a few years back from the NRA Store that slides under the mattress that has two rubber coated prongs at a 45degree angle that holds your handgun by sliding the bore onto the prong. Two of these things a couple feet apart will hold a shotgun. I take it with me to the hotels when I travel.

On the nightstand next to the bed. No different than if I am at home.

I've had one too many people walk into my room because the check in person was confused and assigned the same room. (It was one time total - and I hadn't put the dead bolt on as I was leaving shortly)

So now it stays right next to me or on me the whole time.

Thanks for the responses, folks. I usually come up with my own solutions that work for me as these various situations come up, but it's always interesting to hear other peoples' perspectives and methods. This old dog still learns a new trick every now and then! :tiphat:

I have a homemade bedside holster with rubberized fabric that slides horizontally between the mattress and box springs, with the holster hanging vertically. All I have to do is drop my arm beside the bed and the handgun is in my hand.

When traveling and children are around I put in a biometric case, on the night stand. Until it is time to get ready for bed, it is on my person. This is the same case that can go into the car and cabled to the seat support if I need to leave it in the truck or car.

What a visual. Funny, funny, funny.
I don't see a problem with it............ but some of us haven't worn PJ's in a long, long time. :biggrinjester:

with two young kids in the room with me, I usually place my gun in the closet on top of the highest rack. I don't expect to need it after I have deadbolted/latched the door shut. The expectation is that once locked and latched from the inside, nobody can enter the room even with a key. As my kids continue to get older, more curious, and more capable I will probably proceed to place the gun in one of my locked boxes or maybe get a biometric handgun safe that can easily be taken in my luggage.
