Should i buy it?

Post by killerfly128 »

springfield loaded frame, with wilson xtra-wide thumb safety and extended slide release
stippled and relieved frontstrap
thinning in grip/trigger guard areas
Ajacx black "buffalo horn" grips,,ie: shiny black smooth, plastic. not cracked but a few scratches.
coated in Laur weaponry's Durabake flat black
steel upper, unmarked from Caspian, relieved ejection port and Hi VIz adjustable target sights..
(the front sight lightpipe has been replaced since the picture was taken
also has a Kimber barrel with fitted barrel bushing, shoots tight and accurate groups
Coated with flat black Laur weaponry's Durabake.

round count...
barrel has maybe 500 through it and is a Kimber barrel I bought the kimber brand new..replace it with a Kart national Match barrel I got a great deal on.

slide is NEW as are all slide parts, firing pin, springs, pin stop, sights
frame is in excellent condition, showed little finish wear prior to my refinish.
it was green, hated it..front strap is stippled, edges taken off, took out a little steel under the trigger guard to improve the grip a bit
3 coats of Dura Bake

$425 ???

I am of the opinion that if you don't know if you should buy it, then don't buy it!

The one you should buy will come along and you will know thats the one I got to have!

I know i like the 1911 ... just dont know if this paticular pistol os a good deal with all the mods on it ... I am newer to 1911s and just want to be sure its worth the money.

I just sold kimber pro carry II and kinda have my heart set on a kimber pre series II 1911 ... but if this one is gonna be a good deal for me I dont have a issue buying this and posable another handgun.

Well the price is right you can not get many other 1911,s for that price!

And they are going up every year so if you can do it get it, but if you get it change those rusty grip screws out with something better.

...shoots tight and accurate groups...
There are some cosmetic things that might bother some...Wouldn't bother me...

This would not be a very hard decision if it were me...

Don't let a few around here know where this deal nah, ya hear...

I have a few reservations about it such as the replaced slide which is strange in my opinion, I would have done a trigger job first.

then the rust on the grip screws bothers me a bit.... what else is rusted?????

I dont think i will buy it unless i shoot about 100 rounds with out a Falure

Well, if anything it looks like someone liked to tinker with it some...

Rust can be fixed, those screws weren't treated, so that may be the extent of a little oxidation on there...But you have very valid concerns...

Not sure how far you are willing to go with investing $425...But from what I see, I don't see much of a problem that can't be addressed, and it might be kinda fun to see what it can do for you...

Others will certainly disagree with me, and it won't hurt my feelings at all (there's a ton of knowledge here way above my paygrade)...If it gives you too much heartache, I would let this bird fly...No need to pull hairs on something that someday you might find a better deal on something else anyway...

my other LARGE concern is the amount of "home gunsmithing" he said he has done ... ther are also what looks to be abnormal weir on the inside of the slide

and the DPD Forgery paper is concerning

That many mods, only 500 rounds??? Why so few rounds and why so cheap?? I would feel concerned that the seller is willing to take such a loss on a popular firearm.

A real 1911 expert is going to have to coach you on that aspect...

At least he didn't take a picture of the business end and send it to you, like someone else here has done... :smilelol5:

I think the DPD Forgery case number is pretty funny...

"Did I send this to that guy???"

Duh!

I don't think you want to complete this deal...Thats ok...You have to be the one to get comfortable with it...Not us...

Save you're money, gather another couple hundred and find a new Taurus 1911, or save a bit more and buy you a good Springfield around Christmas time...That way you'll have a known factor...

Just my take on it...Have fun!

I have the cash to buy just about any mid to high grade 1911 out there. about 800-900 to play with .... I am really looking for a pre series II kimber 4 inch in stainless.

I was close to buying a Taurus the other day but passed ... and i am very tempted by the Springfield loaded champion right now but have heard there are quite a few quality issues with them

Hey Killer...

Then I'd pass on this animal, and get the Springfield or that Kimber...

You'll be much more happy with one of them...

You might even want to pass to those interested (through a PM) in who is selling this item...Someone may want to check it out...If the guy is still selling...

I don't really need it, but someone else may...You never know...
