Love me some Texas
Just got back from a trip to TN to see some family. Their laws regarding carry seem to be pretty similar, however their "no guns" sign is quite a bit more bland than ours. Simple gun buster that says "No Guns Allowed" and citing a section of their penal code.
The biggest difference though had nothing to do with their laws or their penal code, but it was HOW MUCH I MISSED TEXAS3006.COM!
This is such an incredibly invaluable resource, I wanted to throw out (more) thanks to Russell and the guys that are helping him with the site, apps, back end support, and everything else. Handgunlaw.us was immensely helpful as well. (Who knew you could travel into three different states in a day while visiting family and bumming around the Memphis area?) I went from TX, to AK, to TN, to MS all within the span of a day or two. It's really foreign to me, as it takes me 6 hours to get to Galveston and in 6 hours going east/north east we went through three states. We really are like our own country in size and scope.
Even with reciprocity between all four states, I have to say I felt extremely self conscious while carrying in other states. I knew what their laws were regarding it, but there's just something about being home and really KNOWING this state's quirks like the back of my hand.
Oh, and texas3006.com!

Welcome home! There's no place in the world like Texas that's for sure. Have you kissed the ground yet?TexasJohnBoy wrote:Just got back from a trip to TN to see some family. You got me to thinking back to a trip years ago in which we flew balloons in Mexico for about a week. When crossing the border back into Texas, that is exactly what I did.TexasTornado wrote:

Man I hear you. At least TN has decent gun laws, and you can still carry. I just got back from a week in Washington/Oregon. I couldn't even carry a knife concealed. I will say that my situational awareness was through the roof. Almost to the point that I started to question my "sense of security" carrying a gun. Meaning that my awareness could certainly better while I carry, but I felt like I was on high alert at all times. Glad to be back home.

You cant even carry a knife? Man I was almost in trouble then. We went from San Francisco all the way up to Seattle over the course of two weeks. I carried a 5" lock back knife everywhere we went.dragun wrote:Man I hear you. At least TN has decent gun laws, and you can still carry. I just got back from a week in Washington/Oregon. I had to grin last month when we went to Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. I carried my .45 everywhere. It was nice.

Re: Love me some Texas
Just got a new Safariland 7390 holster for my G20/21. Took it out, tried it a few times, OCed with it to dinner with the family tonight.
Love carrying a G21 around, that holster is prefect!
Glad Texas has Open Carry, and sensible gun laws. Now if we can only get bars, schools, polling places, and so on taken off of the naughty list for license holders, things will be great.

I love living in Texas again after 20 years in another state.
Just hope that all the people migrating here don't come here and turn it into California, New York, Massachusetts, etc.
I don't know if I want to have to retreat to Idaho, Wyoming or Montana to live freely

I hear that!! Moved hear 6 years ago and to me, one of the things that makes Texas so great is the distinct proud Texas culture. Very Americana and old school values, but many places are beginning to change. We had some neighbors who were from CA and they bitched and complained that TX wasn't like ca, yet they came hear because CA is getting to be impossible to live and raise a family. Finally had to tell them that they should just gtfo and go back to ca. Amazing, on one hand they complained how hard it is to live their, and then immediately tried to change things to be were they had just escaped from.bblhd672 wrote:I love living in Texas again after 20 years in another state.

Re: Love me some Texas
I am fortunate to have been born and raised in Texas. I have never lived anywhere else. Over the years we have had to deal with some bad politicians, bad policy, and poor State leadership. I am glad that we are now experiencing what I call the "golden age"
I too worry than an influx of people, from bastions of liberalism, may cause things to backslide . But for the most part, the people I have met from out of State, moved here to escape restrictions, taxes, and embrace the freedoms we enjoy here.
For those who complain about Texas, I let them know that there are planes, trains, and buses leaving everyday.

Try being born and raised in California... Moving to Texas is a dream I still haven't woken up from.
