Benihana Plano illegal sign?
The wife & I were going to eat there, but upon checking the Texas30.06 app, I see they have a 30.07 AND a 51%! I highly doubt they need a 51% since the ones in Dallas and Irving don't have them. I suspect it's illegal, but is there a way to report it? Or a better question is should it be reported?
Re: Benihana Plano illegal sign?
If you want to check the license status (red or blue sign required) of an establishment that serves alcohol, search here:
http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/PublicInquiry/Status.aspx
Searching Trade Name: Benihana and City: Plano, you get only one hit.

Rumor mill says that TABC is very good about following up on incorrect signs. I have no first-hand experience, so, YMMV.

So..... If TABC says they should have a Blue sign (not 51%) but they choose to post the wrong sign, you can file a complaint here:License #: RM709108
Processing your request. Please wait...

I was advised to not mention guns in anyway when you file a complaint, but I had already filed it. And for the record, it did no good at all. It seems the TABC is very anti and doesn't care if the wrong sign is posted.
Do what you say you're gonna do.

Thanks so much for the info! I'm sure it'll come in handy in the future.RoyGBiv wrote:If you want to check the license status (red or blue sign required) of an establishment that serves alcohol, search here:

Turned out to be a false alarm as they have removed the 51% signs since they were spotted by texas30.06 members. I just threw my shirt over the pistol and was good to go.
Re: Benihana Plano illegal sign?
IIRC there's been at least a few reports on here of 51% signs getting taken down after a report was files. Perhaps it's just someone in your location.Lynyrd wrote:I was advised to not mention guns in anyway when you file a complaint, but I had already filed it. And for the record, it did no good at all. BTW, Soconfused, it's an invalid sign. Nothing illegal about it. Well, maybe not. Can they be fined for having a 51% invalidly posted?

That has not been my (admittedly very limited) experience. In my case I reported an incorrect 51% sign, and while it took several weeks for anything to happen, the sign came down.Lynyrd wrote:I was advised to not mention guns in anyway when you file a complaint, but I had already filed it. My experience, TABC seems to act pretty fast. I have reported two locations as have a 51% sign that should not. Within a couple of weeks and the signs where gone.der Teufel wrote:That has not been my (admittedly very limited) experience. Let's go Brandon!

Re: Benihana Plano illegal sign?
I filed a complaint about a year and a half ago about a restaurant in Dallas. They had just a red 51% sign and should have been blue. About a month later, I went back and they had the correct blue sign, but put up a valid 30.06.
Needless to say, never going back, but the TABC did their job, so no complaints on that.
