Shipping Handguns in Texas

Post by Dan20703 »

This may have been asked several times before but I couldn't find it in a search.

Can a Texas resident legally ship a handgun to another Texas resident without the interaction of an FFL?

Thanks in advance to those that know and post the answer.

Technically, yes. It's legal. But it's hard to find a commercial carrier that will ship to an unlicensed recipient.

Someone mentioned a Texas-based company called Lone Star Overnight that is more firearm-friendly.

Legally, yes. But you might have a hard time convincing the carrier of that.

I've used Lonestar Overnight with no issues at all.

Used them twice for firearms and they never thought twice about it.

A little less than $48.00 and a $1.50 for a return receipt card.

I often have to ship out packages of maps and documents that weigh somewhat over a pound, often in 26" long tubes, and it rarely costs 20 bucks for the early bird next day! They get you because by law you must declare to the common carrier it contains a handgun and and they then give you their "special brother-in-law" rate  I really don't think they have to do anything special (on the contrary, since they are not allowed to put any special "IT'S A GUN" markings on the package) to ship the contents.
