Been there, done that, a couple of times. Wife also. (Both teachers at same school)

Tim - I like your Get to Know the Teacher show. 1st it's a good ice-breaker and 2nd it shows you want to connect with your kids.

I went into Academy last weekend to fondle a couple of pistols I am trying to decide between. One of my students works there and drifted by the gun counter. He half jested that it was a scary thought to see me with a gun in my hand. We struck up some chit-chat about guns. Always reminds me of some book my wife uses in her class. I think it is called Teacher from the Black Lagoon. Basically the students think the teacher lives at school and are suprised to see her at the store...or something like that. I am constantly amazed that my students find it funny or odd that I am involved in some of the things I like to do. Like we have no life...

You guys/gals would also like to know that I showed pictures of my gun collection as part of a "get to know your teacher" slide presentation and I had 4 kids go to the counselor and tell him. The counselor sent them back to class with a "That's nice." No parent phone calls either so it didn't go any farther.

It was not a risk at all. The principal asked us to let the kids know a little about ourselves in a slide show. No instructions on what to include or what not to include. My other hobbies are racing my supercharged Miata on the flat track, fishing and golf. There were pictures of those included as well so everything was taken in context of the slideshow. Now if I had just shown pictures of my guns, my range activities and how fast I can draw from concealment I would be typing this after a visit to the unemployment office.

I thought it was important to show responsible gun ownership.

My wife is a Kindergarten teacher so I have to be mindful of the times I go up to the school. Also, it is hilarous to be at the grocery store and have the little Kindergarten children recognize her and all but flip out that their teacher is shopping at the store.... It's like hanging out with a movie star. Driving her in the neighborhood parade was a similar response.

Tim, good to see another Miata pilot here. I have a SM, Supercharged 99 and a 90 Driver.

You should have seen my 12 year old's eyes when he recognized another shooter at a local IDPA match as a teacher from his school

He was worried about the consequences of scoring better at the match

Nope. 30.06 signs are not valid on any public, government property not specifically listed as banned otherwise.

(e) It is an exception to the application of this section that the property
