Good LEO encounter

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

Good LEO encounter

Post by WTR »

Was pulled over for using a hand signal for a left turn. Gave the LEO my info (including my CHL, although in NM I’m not required to do so. ). He asked why I was using a hand signal then asked what I was carrying. I told him. He handed me my papers and said cool.

Is it an infraction to use a hand signal in NM?
If not, why the stop?

Just wondering.

Hand signal is no bueno in NM if the distance from the center of the steering wheel to the outside edge of the vehicle is more than 2 feet OR if the distance from the steering wheel to the back of the vehicle is more than 14 feet.

https://law.justia.com/codes/new-mexico ... -66-7-326/

emphasis mine.
B. Any motor vehicle in use on a highway shall be equipped with, and required signal shall be given by, a signal lamp or lamps or mechanical signal device when the distance from the center of the top of the steering post to the left outside limit of the body, cab or load of such motor vehicle exceeds twenty-four inches, or when the distance from the center of the top of the steering post to the rear limit of the body or load thereof exceeds fourteen feet. The latter measurement shall apply to any single vehicle, also to any combination of vehicles.
Looks like TX is the same..

Sounds like it is time to flush and replace blinker fluid.
