I put on my old IDPA rig today (OWB) and although I always knew the muzzle "covered" me, I was surprised to see how much.
I placed a laser pointer alongside the holster and by "estimating" the bullet path...it appeared it would enter high in the thigh and exit behind the knee!
Almost always use a SmartCarry. Only way I could cover anyone is if they are prone on the floor and I am standing, straddling them. That doesn't happen often.

Ever been above the first floor of a building? Do you know exactly where your pistol is pointing while seated (think of the positions of your legs, especially if you ever cross your legs)? When you draw, do you tilt the gun, even slightly, to either side?
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

How about yourself? are any of your own body parts covered. how about when seated?

Before I purchased a SmartCarry I read some comments from men that worried about certain delicate body parts being covered i.e. exposed to a possible ND. My experience however has not proven that assumption. I currently daily carry a Glock 30 in the SmartCarry and I find that the barrel points directly down (even when sitting) and (at least the way I wear it) is to the side of cherished anatomy. I will concede however that for any given circumstance, a counter-circumstance exists therefore, even with the SmartCarry the possibility of my foot, or a portion of my flabby thigh, being momentarily exposed (covered) is feasible.
I'm a simple IWB carry'er that does not generate much of a sweeping or covering of myself or others...
Unless you become a threat that has to be dealt with in a proportional response...
If thats what I think you are asking...

Hi Stevie,
The question is posed to determine if you ever have the muzzle of your weapon point at yourself or others even briefly.
I already know the approximate outcome of the poll, but need to create some awareness... before asking a few questions about certain gun safety principles and catch phrases.
Some folks who IWB are skinny enough that even when seated.. the weapon doesn't point at their Gluteus Maximus or thigh, but its the rare person.

My sugestion that the smartcarry does not completely remove the possibility of covering certain parts of yourself, is not a suggestion that it is any more dangerous than any other carry. But only in reference to the question of the original poster.
I believe where he is going with this is that almost any manor of carry will cover someone at sometime. I don't believe that this is much of an real safety concern. A handgun while holstered is indeed in a very safe condition.

Yes, this is one point I want to have firmly established before asking my other questions, or making my proposal.
Okay, put in a laser bore site and tried it. Yep, there are a few motions where I cover myself. On the night stand there is no way to position it so it could not be pointed at someone at some time however breifly.
