Question about FFL transfer

I found a gun in Dallas for a friend of mine and he is going to find someone with an FFL to do the transfer. I've always bought new or FTF and never used a middleman.

Can someone tell me how the process works and do you have to pay tax on the sale? He will be buying it used, from an individual.

No, you do not have to pay taxes if he is out of state. Your friend has to fax or mail his FFL's signed form to your gun store. Then your friend will pay for the gun then the store will ship the gun to the FFL. Your friend will pick up his gun from the FFL. The FFL will then do the background check with BATF, collect the FFL fee and that's it. Hope I didn't confuse you. lol.

It would be easier to drive and get it. Make a weekend trip out of it. YOu'd save some fees and frieght charges.
Unless you have a 12mpg gas guzzler like I do.

I'm still unclear on the taxes issue. Does he have to pay taxes?

ok, I am no IRS expert.....but, If the seller is a private individual (not a business with resale liscence) then no, no taxes to be paid. Or, if the buyer is out of state, no tax paid.

KennyLee is right, once the shipper has a copy of the recieving FFL's liscense then the shipper can ship the gun to the FFLs address. The actual buyer can directly pay (to the seller) for the gun (and shipping cost). He can pay, he just cant recieve it. He then will go over to his FFL and go through the paperwork and NICS check. He gives the FFL the xfer fee, and done.
