When did cats become so expensive? They used to cost $50 new. $650?
Another reason to have a diesel in the motorhome. Better mileage and no need for silly cats.
I feel your pain.
Check your contract. Does it say that the storage place is not liable for any nefarious activity?
I'm guessing you've not priced out a dpf and src pipe, $650 is cheap

Motorhome is repaired. They got my O2 sensor as well. Out the door $804.00. Geico already paid the $304.00 past my $500.00 deductible. Not bad honestly. Within 24 hours of the report I had police case number, insurance coverage and RV fixed. Someone tell me the law again about boobytraps. :evil2:

Last month our church had the cats stolen off of all 3 transport vans sitting in the parking lot facing a main street. Also had cameras but the crooks were able to go under at the farthest end and video was blurry. Then it was just a matter of sliding across under the vehicles.
I have my spare service trucks and trailers parked inside a 6' fence with barbed wire on the top. Video also covering the yard from both ends. Had a couple of guys start to cut through the fence and then one of them noticed the camera so they took off leaving a small hole in the fence. Police used the video and soon caught them. Apparently they were know to LE

Quality cameras really make all the difference in the world. When I see low rez security footage, especially these days, it's irritating. Yes, it's an expense but a necessary one.

I am going to ask the muffler shop to see if they can weld the CC to the frame somehow to make it harder to steal...
Did you do this? I'd be curious to know if this really cuts down theft, or does it just result in more damage. As I mentioned in my post above, UHaul puts cages around the catalytic converters, so now the bad guys just steal the whole truck, take it somewhere, strip off the parts they want, and abandon what's left. Not sure that' less expensive overall than just having the converter cut off where it's parked.

I asked but they said no... They didn't want to weld to it directly...

It would be very noisy throughout the vehicle. There is a reason why the exhaust is supported by rubber/non metallic insulators.

Ah, that makes sense, I suppose that's why UHaul went with the rebar cages. That probably cuts down on losses to opportunistic thieves with a sawzall behind the seat, but the recycle value of cat converters is apparently high enough that the next level professional thieves just steal the whole truck.

ETA: This morning I found a padlock on the back of one of my UHaul trucks cut. :mad5 Nothing else missing, I got on my belly and checked the converter and the gas tank, and the battery was still in the engine compartment, same on nearby trucks. Guess they just wanted to see if there was anything valuable in the cargo box, which was empty except for a dolly and bag of blankets.

The above link is to cat thievery done at Classic Dodge/Jeep/Ram in Corinth, at the Denton line, in Denton County. This was February 2013.

The crooks had to gain entry to the dealership from a problematic area full of rocks and water, then transport the stolen cats to their vehicle parked 100 yards away on a residential street. Wow.
