They step into a pit trying to discuss reasonable suspicion. They should just leave it at reading that legal definition he did once and stick to that. Just keep reading that.

Sen Schwertner is doing a good job of deflecting by pointing out that this bill does not address "reasonable suspicion". And again, Huffman has chimed in with friendly questions. I am feeling more optimistic about this bill passing with amendments in the senate. It will likely end up going to a conference committee to reconcile differences between house and senate.

Maybe my letter to Sen Huffman as an LTC holder, LTC instructor, and Republican Party precinct chair in her district helped sway her to think positively about the bill?

Yeah, I’m going with that...

When those fail, aim for center mass.

Final speaker up before a vote on whether to proceed. This is NOT a vote on the bill itself, this is just a vote on suspending the rules to debate the bill itself.

Vote on suspension of rules to consider bill passes 18-13. Now we're onto debating amendments.

I dunno if I might point of order that. This bill pertains to carry in public by unlicensed individuals, not your private property.

Forgive me if I got it wrong. Yes, this is to make it an offense if an unlicensed individual is carrying a weapon on your private property or with permission of the property owner while you are intoxicated.

Amendment #8
Enhancement of criminal penalties for felons carrying upgrades 3rd-degree felony up to a 2nd-degree felony with mandatory jail time. Also, for those who have been convicted of family violence and are caught carrying then it upgrades from 1st-degree misdemeanor to 3rd-degree felony.
Approved.
