Guns, sights, and ammo

After installing a set of TruGlo TFO sights on my Springfield XD9 and a HiViz fiber optic post on my AR15, I dutifully made a trip to the range to check/zero these two guns.

I got the AR zeroed and fired about 20 rounds to verify. What difference that little green dot makes!

Now, for the XD - - - The TFO sights are Tritium Fiber Optic giving you the advantages of both styles! They are a boon for these 59 year old eyes!

I got lucky when I installed the sights as no further adjustment was necessary they shot dead on at 7 yards.

Now, for the bad part - - - I have carried WWB 115gr JHP for self defense in this gun for a couple of years, it has always run 100% until yesterday. On the sixth round out of the first magazine I experienced a failure to extract/double feed. I cleared the malfunction and proceeded to have another FTE/DF on the very next shot. I cleared the gun, checked the extractor (they do break ya know) changed magazines and on the third round another FTE/DF. I stripped all the ammo from the magazine and loaded it with CCI Blazer 115 gr JHP. All 15 rounds fired without even a hiccup so I went back to the WWB and had the same problems. Out of 46 rounds of WWB I shot I experienced 8 FTE/DF malfunctions that's a 17.6% failure rate!!!!!

I ran another three mags of Blazer through the gun and it was flawless. I wonder why all of a sudden this gun doesn't like WWB

It was a new box of ammo bought about a month ago.

I'm going to go back to Golden Saber in this gun until this problem with WWB is resolved.

It's the new sights, everyone knows that that brand and model make the slide too heavy to cycle properly.

I'm thinking it's the WWB/XD bugaboo showing up again.

I wish I'd saved those cases to mic to see if they were out of spec.

I think it probably is. I hear lots of people talking about problems with WWB and XDs. Never tried any in mine, which handles blazer and Wolf without a hickup.

I'm getting more intrigued by these hi-vis sights...

Either one of those Mep-Pro systems or some other sights that really give you that edge to thoe old tired eyes we grow with...

The Mep Pro guy is always at the Houston Gunshows, and I always see someone getting them mounted there on the spot at his booth...

Now how you adjust them if they are not "just right", I dunno...Maybe taking a paper target to him at the next show, may get you a free adjustment...Who knows...

I'm starting to warm up to the idea about these sights...

My only concern is how do the effect the "draw" from concealment or the holster for that matter???

The test case for me would be to see how well they work from an old Don Hume leather holster for my G23...Its about 5 years old, and is well worn in, but still retains the pistol well enough, and performs like new on the draw...

Not like all you race-gun holster guys! With yer CompTacs and other kydex, FOBUS carrying lucky dogs!

Steve has a confession...He's going the way of the Do-Do (sp?)...And has ordered a couple of CompTacs for his G23, and that nifty .45 he stole from his Dad...
