Got a gift certificate, help me choose

Post by RPBrown »

My lovely wife got me a gift certificate at Grab a Gun.
Looking at the Rock Island Officers or EAA Girsan officers model.
Pros and cons of each? Recommendations?

Not enough information. But, I’ve owned a RI 1911 and 3 different Girsans. I would recommend any of them.

I would not recommend Rock Island. I had a RI officer 1911, that ran about 50% of the time, if that. I won't buy any 1911's that aren't American made at this point, so I can't really recommend Girsan either. If you really want a budget 1911, get a Ruger. It's definitely not great but it will run. Don't buy Springfield, for principle. Sig is my go to bottom line 1911.

Edit: Also while I worked at a gun range in college, I saw many people have issues with these low end 1911's. Anecdotal, but still valuable.

I have a Ruger SR1911 Commander.
I highly recommend it.

I have a Ruger commander and full size. Also have a RI full size. 1911’s are hands down my favorite gun. I have 12 of them in all shapes, sizes and price ranges
The 2 I mentioned are a couple I don’t have.
