these guys messed with the wrong guy,i've been aproached like that before in china town about a year ago when I was going to an astros game,two guys approached me asking for change because they only had a $100 dollar bill and the parking attendant didnt have change,but they looked like thugs and real suspicious and I told them politely that I didnt have any change, and as they sped off I kept turning my back and never let my guard down.Thank god nothing happened but you just never know.

The article says one dead and one got away. But it's still a good job as far as I can tell.
I like it where the story quotes an HPD spokesman as saying that the two robbers "picked on the wrong guy."
We should all be "the wrong guys", right?
The take away from this is, get your CHL, and carry the gun everywhere you legally can.
Then work to make it so you can carry it legally just about everywhere.

Ahm jus' a Southern boy trapped in a Yankee's body
It's been 25 years since I spent time as a reserve, so someone correct me. As an 'off-duty' reserve, he would have had no authority to be carrying a handgun.
I was pleased to see his agency stand behind him, as that makes a world of difference in how this is perceived. But unless he also had a CHL, I don't think he was carrying legitimately anyway.
The good results render all of this moot, of course, and I'm glad things turned out in his favor.

yeah your right what made me nervous that night I was approached, is that I wasnt carrying just the fact that I was going to the astros gamefrankie_the_yankee wrote:The article says one dead and one got away. But it's still a good job as far as I can tell.

That brings up a good point. We know our laws, and it's not difficult to look them up. If I were a BG, I would familiarize myself with when an where CHLers can't carry their weapons. That would make for a pretty easy circumstance where you would have less of a chance running into an armed citizen. Be especially vigilant at those times, because, (as nando said) if you're going to a sporting event, you're going to be unarmed.nando wrote:yeah your right what made me nervous that night I was approached, is that I wasnt carrying just the fact that I was going to the astros gamefrankie_the_yankee wrote:The article says one dead and one got away. Especially when we are told that if its one of "our kind", the public is told that we should not take the law into our own hands, and that we should comply with the criminals demands...frankie_the_yankee wrote:The article says one dead and one got away. You are correct, a Reserve is only allowed to carry while on Duty. He can not carry off duty, he is not TECLOSE certified.It's been 25 years since I spent time as a reserve, so someone correct me. As an 'off-duty' reserve, he would have had no authority to be carrying a handgun.

He probably has his CCW, so I am sure he was legal. At least I hope he was.
I used to be a Reserve years ago also, before I went in the Army.

Yes, Reserves are TCLEOSE certified. They are Peace Officers if they hold a permanent peace officer license issued by the Commission on Law Enforcement - Local Government Code, Chapter 341, Section 341.012, as amended by the 76th Legislature, 1999, HB957.Emmett wrote:You are correct, a Reserve is only allowed to carry while on Duty. A member of a reserve force who is not a peace officer as
described by Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, may act as a
peace officer only during the actual discharge of official duties.
All that is needed is fot the officer to complete the TCLEOSE certified training pass the TCLEOSE Peace Officer test, meet the state qualifications and be hired as a reserve.Texas code of Criminal Procedure
Art. 2.12. WHO ARE PEACE OFFICERS. The following are peace
officers:
(1) sheriffs, their deputies, and those reserve deputies
who hold a permanent peace officer license issued under Chapter
1701, Occupations Code;
(2) constables, deputy constables, and those reserve deputy
constables who hold a permanent peace officer license issued under
Chapter 1701, Occupations Code;
(3) marshals or police officers of an incorporated city,
town, or village, and those reserve municipal police officers who
hold a permanent peace officer license issued under Chapter 1701,
Occupations Code;

I asked to be corrected and I was.
I took my reserve class in 1975 and then my basic class in 1978 for my full certification. I spent over two years employed full time and then during 1980 began serving as a reserve for another another agency. I left that agency in 1982.
At that time, we were told that reserves were not allowed to carry unless we were working.

The guy had a CHL. My hubby and I went to the gun show at the GRB and were parked in his lot. We went back to our truck about 30 minutes after it happened and all the vehicles parked there were park of the crime scene until just after 7pm that night.

Oh it's TCLEOSE not TECLOSE.
