Hell if i know, but im sure the Brady people woulda preferred it sold with one on.

The Sheriff's dept here, gives them away for the asking. As do several of the pawns.

That's odd. I just picked up a NIB RIA Tactical, and it did not come with any lock of any sort. The case had holes for padlocks, but no locking mechanism was present.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I haven't bought a long gun in a while but the last four handguns I bought here in Texas as part of the paperwork I had to sign a form saying that the dealer had offered me a lock if one didn't come with the gun. Academy told me that even if the gun came with a lock they would give me one.

The dealer I got my pistol from gave me a pamphlet about keeping guns out of the hands of children, but nothing was ever said about any lock. I don't buy may guns NIB, so I didn't think anything of it until I read this thread.

Yep, that's mandatory too (from the feds). Any time an ATF licensee sells a handgun, they must include the "Youth Handgun Safety Act" notice.
