Yes, one extra 15-round magazine when carrying my M9 and two extra 13-round magazines when carrying my XD 45ACP. As I was told many, many times in the military, "train like you're going to fight!" :fire

The weak link in any pistol is the magazine. Nice to have a backup for the weak link - regardless of the extra ammo.

I carry one spare magazine in my pocket.

Mars usually doesn't carry any.

Daddy carries two spare mags in a mag pouch on his belt when he wears his 1911.

I voted yes but have a caveat.

I carry a spare mag when I'm carrying my XD-40SC.

I do this because of the conceal flexibility offered by the shorter mag even though I enjoy shooting the pistol more when using the extended mag. I also shoot a little better with the extended mag.

So, when possible, I carry the larger mag in the pistol and the shorer mag in my pocket. If things change and concealment takes priority, I switch out mags and carry the larger mag in my pocket.

When carrying my 1911, I don't carry a spare mag.

I always carry 2 extra mags, I carry a Kimber ultra cdp with a wilson mag, but carry full size wilsons in my mag pouch. Not so much for the extra ammo, but in case of a malfunction, also the full size mags are easier to grab and load than the shorter mags. It's no problem to carry extra mags and if you ever needed them you'd be thankful that you carried them all the while. This comes up on every forum and I'm always surprised how many folks dont see the need, Jeff Cooper and Client Smith taught us that the mag was the one piece most likely to fail or get dumped by accident, since these two guys said that's the way it is, I have carried 2 spares forever, and will continue to as long as I carry. It just makes sense to me.

Yes and no.

I'm still waiting for my CHL to finish processing, so I only carry in my vehicle, and usually only when I'm headed out at night even then. When I do that, it's usually just a quick trip to the store or something as I am pretty much a homebody, and I usually don't bring along a spare mag. That being said, when my CHL arrives, I plan on carrying an extra mag as I will be away from home for extended periods of the day. I guess it's a "risk assessment" strategy. Since I can't carry outside of my vehicle, I'm not likely to be involved in a running gun battle, and the 12+1 rounds in my H&K seems like an adequate number for inside the car.

I do not leave home without at least one extra mag. I have two on me if I am travelling.

Absolutely!

Not because I think I would need 26 rounds of ammo, but because I know a mag. can fail and leave me in trouble without a spare.

If I am carrying, I always have at least one spare mag. and flashlight.

Yes, mainly for the reasons of possible mag failure mentioned above. I also figure that if I were ever going to be in a situation that required more than 16 rounds, I'd be awful glad that I decided to keep an extra mag with me.

I carry a Hi-Power. I used to carry a single mag in my left front pocket. I had a dual mag holder made, mainly for use in IDPA. When I tried it on and put the mags in, it balanced me out so well that I decided to start wearing it all the time.

So that's 15+1 plus two mags... 46 rounds total. Yeah, it's a lot.

If I'm carrying a BUG, I usually keep a spare mag in my pocket, so that would add 7+1 and an extra mag, so 15 rounds there.

Off duty I carry at least one extra mag. Now on duty - that's a different story. I have the standard two mags on the duty belt and then we have vests that we keep in the car to wear when we deploy our patrol rifles. On it I have two extra pistol mags, five 30 round rifle mags and other required items. I also keep another four 30 round mags in my rifle case which stays in the trunk.

I look at extra ammo just like insurance - better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

With mah revolver, I always have a speed loader, sometimes I'll carry a couple speed strips with or instead of.

Agent 92 gets one back up mag.

the Glock 'n Wesson doesn't have a spare mag, so, it gets no back up.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

I wear a leather vest 99% of the time and carry g-17 @ 17rounds + two 17 round mags in the vest. Two balances the vest nicely and that gives me redundant mags and 51 rounds.

Not that I think 51 rounds would ever be needed, bullets in a SD situation are like good friends at a party " the more the merrier" having too many will never get you killed, having to few however :cryin :thewave
