Cattle rustling still a problem

There's a sign on a fence near me offering a reward for information about a missing heard. The signs been there a few months. Could be they just got out, but could have been rustled too.

If the old form of justice for "rustling" was still in play, there wouldn't be much of it going on.

Yes it still goes on today. I know a guy that got busted for that very thing. That was while he was waitng trial for running 3lbs of weed and some meth from Mexico. And to topit all off....his dad had past away and he got his dads 300 Weatherby Mag and a Bushmaster Predator. 3 months later he pawned the Weatherby for $150....a month after that he pawned the Bushy for $250. I offered to get them out so he wouldnt lose them. He said he could handle it. 2 months later I asked if I could get them out and he said he had already lost them.

Timber rustling is becoming a big problem these days. Heavy equipment seems to be a new favorite target, too.

I thought that was called a 'brand'.

There are lots of ways to track down if it is your cattle if you can get to them before they get sold. Big problem is the slaughter houses that will take them in without checking brands or ownership very closely.

There are lots of ways to identify your property. I actually have one of my dogs tattooed with their AKC number. Cheaper than a microchip.

But wait, the feral gummint is going to protect the food supply by requiring all farm animals to be microchipped, and a report made every time they leave the licensed premises! We'll just catch the rustlers when they call in their NAIS tracking report, right?
