Glock 30 capacity

Ok, here it is, my first "who is this idiot?" question.

Over time I've seen mentioned "10+1" capacity. I'm relatively bright so I can puzzle out that this means "10 in the magazine, 1 in the chamber". When I bought my G30 a few years ago I thought it was "10+1", but I could never figure out how to make it work. If I fill the mag with 10, insert, rack the slide to chamber the first one, then eject the mag to top it off with one more, I can never get the mag fully reinserted - there's just no spring left in the mag to allow the 10 to be pushed down far enough so that the mag will fit into the mag well.

Am I just being too gentle, and if I really give it a good shove it'll work, or am I mistaken and the G30 can't do 10+1 (and have therefore been wise in not trying to force it)? Can any Glock owners (or others - don't feel like you actually have to type the name ) comment on this?

You may need to fully load the magazine and leave it to sit for a time. Or just live with 9+1.

I routinely carry my G30 10+1 with no problem seating the mag after topping it off. You may have a bad mag.

Jbirds will probably chime in shortly with advice. Listen to him. He knows his Glocks.

I carry a Glock 30 also. Good choice, I love it for carry. There are 2 different magazines available for it. There's the one with the small finger extension, that's the 10 rounder, and there's the 9 rounder with no extension that fits flush with the butt of the gun. Make sure you have the 10 rounder first. I had the same trouble with mine. It's VERY tight with 10 rounds in the mag. You have to pop it in pretty hard to get it in there. At first, I couldn't even get the 10th round in the mag at all! I left my mags loaded for awhile with 9 rounds and kept trying to get the 10th in there. Once I did, I left them loaded with 10 rounds. Eventually, you'll be able to get them all in there, and get the mag in the gun with no problems. One thing that helps is to tap the base of the mag on a hard surface every few rounds to make sure they seat well and don't try to single stack on you. Mine does that occasionally.

I do have the "pinky-finger extension"-type mags, so no worries there. They are indeed very tight and hard to get that 10th into the mag to make it full. I typically keep two fully loaded (9+1 in the ready-to-go G30, and 10 in the spare mag) for months at a time, and swap them out every 6 months with the mags that sit empty when they're not being used @ the range. So over a few years I would guess they'd be all set to go. I probably haven't tried to get the "11th" round in there for quite a while, so maybe I'll give it another shot this weekend, with Tactical_Texan's "tap the mag butt on the counter" suggestion and shaggydog's "may have a bad mag" comment in mind.

I thought I had a 10 round mag and a 9 round mag until I started shooting the gun. Eventually the 10 round fit in the mag and not long after I was able to insert it into the gun with 10 and a little effort. I use the looser one for daily carry and the tight one for back-up. It loads the first round fine so I am not concerned. You may need to give it some time or you may just really have a 9 round mag. If it was a new gun they are probably both 10.

Well on the advice of those here I tried 10+1 again and it worked no problem. I guess being a newbie when I first bought it was making me be a little more apprehensive about exerting the force on the full mag that seemed to be required to get the thing seated. When I did it over the weekend (at the range, natch) it was no problem and it operated fine, no FTFs or FTEs.

I often carry my G-30. Long time military habit (and for a functional reason) I carry my mags downloaded by one round. I carry with one in the pipe and a ten round mag loaded with 9 rounds. Flawless function is more primary than one additional round, besides......I also carry a couple of extra mags (all downloaded by one.....but they are G-21 highcaps <g>)

Magazine springs are the main reason for the majority of malfunctions, both in long guns and handguns. We typically do not change springs as often as we should, but still carry these potential problems with little thought as to how they could effect an outcome if the time ever comes.

I am able to fit 10 rounds in all of my G30 mags (except my one 9-rounder) with no problem, including the one on my hip right now, but it was difficult at first. It's a matter of loading the mags and letting them sit loaded for a while.

Another Glock 30 owner/operator. Same issues with the magazines. Mag springs are too tight to take that 10th round. Will accept the conventional wisdom here that I need to work harder. All things considered, a minor nuisance. Great gun.

Depends on the magazine. There are 9rd and 10rds. Most are 10rds and they are extremely hard to get the 10+1 because the top round is pressing against the slide.

One more happy Glock 30 owner. I have carried it daily for over 5 years now. Nearly flawless and very accurate...more so than me.

I shoot IDPA and have to load to capacity. The mags were stiff at first butr now are no problem. The tapping of the bottom of the mag to help seat the rounds is a good idea, but I recommend a knee or palm as the striking surface rather than a "hard" surface. Potential for damage to the bottom of the mag on hard surface.

One additional thought for the backup mag, consider carrying the Glock 21 13 round mag as your backup. Works perfectly and has 30% more ammo. In IDPA matches, I always use a Glock 21 Mag as my initial starting magazine (downloaded to 11)so I don't have to fumble with a "barney mag" or reloading 1 round after chambering 1 to get to capacity.
