I haven't heard anything about it on the Houston TV news today.

It must not be as big a deal as 'cinco de mayo' or 'Martin Luther King day', they have parades and all kinds of news coverage for them.

I guess not many people remember the Alamo these days.

Maybe because Alamo Day isn't until March 6th?

Two radio stations in the DFW metroplex (out of the four that I normally listen to and I didn't tune the other two in this morning) both featured articles about today being TX Independence Day. KPLX and KLUV.

I only saw it on the internet.

But a search did turn up an article in the Houston chronicle. Could have been a better article.

I confess guys. I have a lot of forgotten dates marked on my calander. If i did not write them down I would forget them also. Not because they are not important but because you can't remember all of them. When we said the pledge to the Texas flag I reminded the 1st class. rest at the start of each class. I do VE,VJ, day, D-Day, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Pearl harbor, I know several others but cannot remember w/o calander. They like it too. Who has a brother or other kin in the military? They respond great.

I remember when opening day of deer season was.

At least in my small school in western Arkansas, because no one would have shown up -- staff or students.

OK, maybe it was only in Abilene, but I do remember March 2nd being a school holiday when I was in grade school. And no, I am not THAT old, even though I do have a birthday this month.

I am going to be 39...again!

OK......I was going to respond that I could remember that far back too, but then I read Longtooth's response and decided I was just remembering wrong. Now that you mention Abilene, I'm thinking maybe my memory isn't so bad.

It's been too many years ago for me to swear to it, but I sure seem to remember having the day off, and I went to elementary school in Abilene ......but more than 39 years ago.

llwatson. Never was a holiday in West Tex that I am able to remember. That is something I can believe Abilene would do. As I thought, young lady, your confession reveals that you have many parents on the forum & a few grandparents. Be asurred that is a compliment of the highest caliber. We are thankful to have ladies input like you & quidni especially. Your posts in the past have shown this old man a very good balance of toughness & tenderness. ie. Your training credintials, job, continual training, refusing to be a victim / compassion for a new baby struggling, patience because we all had to start somewhere, especially the one about "You guys are making to big a deal about stance, I don't care if they shoot from low ready or...don't remember the rest  Anyway, some of us dads wish our other daughters would catch a little of what you have. ;-) O yea, one more, :headscratch about him being a keeper!!! I have a sneeking feeling he wants to keep you on the stringer too.
