So if you're at home and had a drink or two, and someone kicks in your front door in a home invasion / robbery attempt, are you saying that you wouldn't "mix bullets and beer" in an effort to defend yourself and your family?

If so, all I can say is that I find that very hard to understand.

Admittedly, it's a rare scenario, but I think for my own part, even if I was rip roaring drunk sitting at home and some BG's tried a home invasion I would not shrink from using a gun if I thought I needed to.
Very good point.

If you were inside of your home, and most definitely a drink or two past the legal definition of "impaired" and you had to deal with a home invasion, how would you be judged?

What if your out with family and friends and have a couple of "Adult Beverages" and when you leave your Wife/Husband/SO who hasn't been drinking drives. If stopped by the police do I still have to notify them of CHL if not guestioned?

If the cop asks for ID you have to show ID and CHL if you're carrying.

I think we have had this discussion before but I do not recall what the consensus was. It is correct that if asked for ID, one must show their CHL but only when carrying…if you are not carrying then one does not have to produce a CHL.

Where there is some confusion and debate in regards to a situation where you have a DD and an intoxicated CHL holder, is where the weapon is located and under whose control. If the firearm in on the CHLers person it is clearly under their control and must show CHL if asked for ID. However, let’s suppose the firearm is in the center console…who has possession and control? Some argue that the CHLer has control by virtue of the CHL authority or proximity. However, some argue that the DD is in control under the new UCW code. If the later is the case then the CHLer is not armed and should not be required to produce the CHL. If the firearm is say in the driver side door panel, then it can easily be argued that the firearm is in possession and control of the DD.

Personally, and I may get flamed for this, I show my CHL every time a LEO ask for it…even when not armed. I think it is easier to explain that you are not armed at the beginning of the contact than it is to explain you are not armed after the LEO runs the license and finds out you are a CHL holder. I think it may put a LEO on the defensive if you let him/her find out about your CHL via running the license as opposed to being up front about it.

this is how I see it also. I BELIEVE that as a CHL holder, if there is a gun, that is concealed and under your control, then you are carrying under your CHL. Thereby you are under ALL of the restrictions placed on CHL and drinking.
Sure. But the only restriction is that you cannot carry while intoxicated.

Frankie,
I agree that the only restriction is to not be intoxicated while carrying.

My point about taking the gun off when I drink at home is that, often I may walk over to the neighbors house and don't want to be carrying my gun on the hip with a beer bottle in my hand. Just a personal choice. This is one of the reasons I do not drink often. I don't like to ever NOT have full control of my faculties.

As to your other statement, If a bad guy kicks in the door, and I have had a beer or four, I will still have access to my weapons, and will use one of them to defend my family. It just won't come from the Desantis holster that I normally wear.
