Poteet Strawberry Festival NO CHL ALLOWED

So did anyone actually go to the festival? Were the festival grounds or any of the individual venues posted?

I was driving to work Monday morning and when stopped a traffic light, saw a new Poteet Strawberry Festival bumper sticker on the caravan in front of me... thought about asking the person. Given that it is downtown town SA early in the a.m. ... logic sorta prevailed .

I was out of town this weekend, so we didn't go, but we've gone in the past.

Last time we went was before I had my CHL, so sadly I don't remember if it was posted and/or people were wanded with metal detectors.

Not sure bother asking. If it is not posted you can carry; if it is posted (30.06 or 51%) you disarm. Even if their policy do not allow weapons no one will notice as by law you are required to properly conceal. Last time I was in SA the River Walk and the Alamo was really crowded and had several LEOs around. Nobody layed an eye on me or my 9mm on my hip although I was standing probably 20 minutes in front of an officer while waiting to enter the Alamo Dome.

My suggestion: if posted disarm; if not lips are sealed and walk in.

I attended the festival on opening night. No 30-06 signs, no wands, nada. I never got near the beer sales stands, but last year those stands had 51% signs.

YMMV one hell of a lot.

Hey guys and gals, thanks once again for the 'tough love'.... I expected several (if not many) to respond as such and that is fine. Sure, attempting to inquire and inform can backfire and result in adding another off limits place. IF that's the case, I will avoid them altogether. I do not want to come off as a foaming at the mouth 2nd Amendment advocate who shoves this down every person's throat, rather, I try to find opportunities to dispel the misconceptions and educate those ignorant to licensed concealed carry. It does not always work, but that can be said for many issues that people choose to challenge. The dedicated will not necessarily quit just because they had a set back. I am not on a personal crusade, but, can we agree that enlightening the public is better than keeping our mouths closed and letting the status quo remain?

I read stories all the time on this and other forums of those who have "converted" another or "recruited" another into the RKBA dogma. We all slap each other on the back and applaud others for doing this (I am no exception). We aren't the Masons after all. Our ways aren't secretive. It's more a matter of presenting a positive image, educating, and understanding that our dollars are at work in the local, state, and federal economy as well and ultimately getting the bigger picture.

I did have a different experience about a month ago when I needed to go to Austin to a small convention center. I asked the owner over the phone who was very happy to receive a call and had no problem with licensed concealed carry. It's incremental progress, but progress nonetheless....

You say your not on a personal crusade in the beginning of your post. But then everything you typed after that reads like you are on a personal crusade. It looks like you didn't get the message others here are trying to convey. Think of it this way. There is no such thing as a sign that says "please carry" so what exactly would we be accomplishing by pointing out that there is no sign at all? The law says that we can carry if there is no sign posted, other than the usual forbidden places. So consider it "permission" when you don't see a sign.

The progress you reported is not progress of any kind. You didn't change his mind about anything. Now if they had it posted...and you convinced them to take the sign down, that would be progress. If it wasn't posted in the first place, what did you convince them of?

IMHO...and many others...pointing out that there is no sign posted can only lead to a negative response. The positive response was already there. You are only going to make a person nervous calling them on the phone and asking if you can bring your "rod" to their event. Heck, I have been around guns all my life and if you called me up and asked if you can bring your gun to my place of business to do an interview, i would say maybe not and start watching out for a wacko trying to shoot me or my other employees down. Just keep it concealed, both visually and verbally. And for gods sake, please quit telling places they aren't posted properly.
