A quick Google search turned up the following link to "Rules and Regulations".

http://www.houstonconventionctr.com/mee ... ations.pdf

Especially interesting is item 15 on page 9.
15. CONCEALED HANDGUNS
Possession of firearms is forbidden in the Facility with the exception of the following: (i) licensed peace officers and licensed honorably retired peace officers and (ii) exhibitors and patrons during duly licensed gun shows and (iii) individuals licensed by the State of Texas to carry concealed handguns.
So it seems that the GRB Center itself is CHL-friendly.

But read it carefully. It doesn't say that a leasee is prohibited from posting the facility or portion of it that they lease with 30.06 signs. It just says that as far as GRB itself is concerned, "..... (i) licensed peace officers and licensed honorably retired peace officers and (ii) exhibitors and patrons during duly licensed gun shows and (iii) individuals licensed by the State of Texas to carry concealed handguns.", are OK.

That probably explains why I do not recall having to disarm when attending the big gun show at the NRA Annual meeting.

True, the lawyers would have to sort that out. Looks like we found 2 different copies of the same rules.

When the officer asked if I had any ammo, I just did not answer and moved on down the line. When I left the show. I removed the zip tie. Found the elevator and road it to the second floor. During the ride up I inserted the mag and holstered my pistol. On they way down, I was concealed and ready to walk safely back to my car.
you know they have cameras in those elevators...
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.

I carry two magazines, one empty and one loaded. When I get to the door, I give them my XD and the empty magazine. When I leave, I take the zip tie off, insert my other magazine, and I'm good to go. No problems so far.

HighVelocity wrote:Good question. No way am I going to hand over $20 worth of ammo. It's not a crime to carry ammo. Besides, there's ammo all over the show so it's really silly for the door person to even ask.
I have to agree with HV on that point.

I went to Big Town last year and was carrying a S&W 638. I put the rounds in my bag prior to entry. They a had a police officer checking guns. When he asked if I had ammo. I told him I had the 5 rounds of ammo in my bag. He just chuckled and said not to worry about and let me go in. Dont know if he should have or not but he did. I had just stuck the rounds in my bag out of habit in an small ammo pocket.

RM has a good point about leaving gun show and those city parking lots. Maybe set up area outside door, concealed of course for chl holders only, to reload before returning to their vehicle with the full mag they had before entering. There is no law against carry of ammo inside unless posted.

Some venues have restrooms outside the 'secure' area, but many do not.

Pasadena Convention Center has the restrooms inside the checkpoint.

Lone Star CC in Conroe has the restrooms in the foyer before the checkpoint.

Reliant Center has restrooms both inside and in the foyer.

At George R. Brown, the obvious restrooms are always inside the checkpoint. But there are stairs/escalators outside in the foyer that you could take to the 2nd floor, which has restrooms.

If you present a gun to be tied, there is a very good chance that you will be asked if you have any ammo on you.

Do you mind lying in response to the question?

Telling the truth will be inconvenient, at the least.
