Attention Dog Lovers!!

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

This is going to be an unusual post for me, but here it goes anyway. Martha and I received an email from the V.P of the Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston (MSRH) explaining their desperate need for volunteers. This is a great group of people and we have been involved with them to some greater or lesser degree for a few years now. We have three miniature Schnauzers, one we bought as a puppy and two we "adopted" as rescue dogs.

Knowing that most "gun people" are also "dog people," I asked Sherry for permission to post a copy of her email so see if anyone in our community can lend a hand. I know MSRH doesn't cry wolf, so I'm sure the need for foster homes is as great as she states in her email. If you can take a dog (or three  ) on a foster basis, or if you want to adopt one, please go to the website http://www.MSRH.org and send an email to Sherry. Every dog they place for adoption or in a foster home has had all of its vet care completed, so you don't have to worry about bringing a sick dog into your home.

Thankfully, MSRH has a veterinarian that gives them a reduced rate for his services, but it isn't free so donations are also appreciated.

Many years ago, Martha and I would laugh at old people who made their dogs their children when the kids grew up and left home. Well, we don't laugh at them anymore . . . we are those people. ;-)

If you think you can help, please check out the MSRH website. If you don't mind, please let them know you heard about MSRH on the TexasCHLforum.com. I want to see if it may be worthwhile to periodically post a request.

Thanks,
Chas.
MSRH email wrote: Hello To all,

MSRH is in dire need of loving foster families. We had 8 adoptions this past week but at the same time we picked up 12 minis from kill shelters. MSRH cannot continue with these upside down numbers. We really need your help.

Please open your hearts to one of these Schnauzers needing your TLC.

Bentley ... White Schnauzer boy ... cropped ears and docked tail ... about 7
months and 16 pounds

Connor ... S/P Schnauzer boy ... natural ears and docked tail ... about 2
years and 18 pounds

Dereck ... S/P Schnauzer boy ... natural ears and docked tail ... about 2
years and 16 pounds

Dolly Belle ... S/P Schnauzer girl ... natural ears and natural tail ...
about 2 years and 16 pounds

Henry ... White Schnauzer boy ... natural ears and docked tail ... about 2
years and 19 pounds

Scooter ... S/P Schnauzer boy ... natural ears and docked tail .... about 1
year and 15 pounds

All of these minis have been fully vetted ... all shots, spayed/neutered, micro chipped and they are more than ready to go into a home ... even a temporary one.

If you can help, please go to our website at http://www.msrh.org, and send me an email. I will send you the necessary foster forms.

If you have a responsible friend or relative that would like to adopt, please encourage them to go to the MSRH website at http://www.msrh.org, and fill out an adoption application or ask about fostering. Or perhaps your mini would like a 4 legged companion.

Please respond, help us help these little ones, that thru no fault of their own have been abandoned and their only hope of survival has been thru MSRH.

The most important ingredient in becoming a Schnauzer foster parent is having lots of love to give to these poor misplaced babies. I know you all have loving hearts or you wouldn't be on my Schnauzer distribution list.

Come on, please give it a try, make their little faces happy and their tails wag, open up your home to one of them.

Thanks to all of our current foster families for loving these little ones before they find a forever home.

If you have any fundraising ideas or would like to organize a fundraiser please let me know and I will make sure you have volunteers to help.

Saving one Schnauzer may not change the world, but it will certainly change the world for that one Schnauzer.

Schnauzer hugs and kisses,

Sherry

Good on Ya Chas!

I can't adopt one, but I certainly appreciate what you and the others are doing for them. :tiphat:

+1. Proud of you Charles

All of our are rescues and my wife is in the process of getting her charity status to help people that can't afford vet bills and are in need. We (she) has already helped one of her customers. An elderly lady that was about to have to put her "baby" down because she couldn't afford the $1600.00 surgury for bladder stones.

Surgury performed and all is well.

I would take one, but my dog would use it as a chew toy and bullyrag it. Maybe after my dog passes on.

Pet rescues are awesome. We got all of our pets from rescues, and we volunteer with a local cat rescue.

I ve got a retriever that I got from a resuce that hopefully will go bird hunting with me one day when he gets older.
(I'm still working on getting the cat to go deer hunting, but so far he's not having any of it.)

Unfortunately our dog population (a couple of rescues in the mix) has exceeded reasonable bounds, otherwise we would probably take a couple.

Good on ya for your involvement in rescue. We used to foster dogs and adopt them out, but a couple of them became keepers, so we don't have any more room.

Current tally: 1 purebred (a standard poodle who was a gift), and 4 rescued mutts. Plus three or four cats (you can never keep an accurate count with outdoor cats), one turtle, a 55 gallon tropical tank, and one crotchety African Grey parrot.

My wife is a groomer working here at home, so we typically have 2-4 client dogs mixed in with the pack during the day.

We have one miniature schnauzer (adopted from a rescue) with a napoleon complex (AKA: little man's complex), and I'm afraid the house isn't big enough for two. We took care of FIL's elderly schnauzer until he(the dog) died, and I'm afraid keeping Baxter from tormenting his elder was a full time job. We also have two cats, and one is rather prejudiced.

I did send a link to their website to a friend that has mentioned adopting a mini schauzer. I'll also try to think of some other people that would be interested.

I'm glad you posted this. I really wish more people would go the adoption route than buy from a breeder. These animals seem to appreicate the second chance.

Our mix is: One Chocolate Lab, One Rhodesian Ridgeback, One Maltiepoo, One black Cocker Spaniel, and a miniature long/wire haired Dachshund.

And TWO chrochety Ahrican Greys - and there is nothing more crochety than a grey.

Makes training the dogs a real chore, because the greys repeat the commands and the dogs lose focus. "Sit, sit, good dog, down, get away from there, NO!, get in your crate, out Out OUt OUT!!!" and many others are in the birds' repertoirs, usually repeated in a long string without regard for the dogs' responses.

Probably need a funny stories about parrots thread.

you being in the navy, is it a requirement to have a parrot, too?

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
