"While this idea is a decent idea, I think it is unworkable. First of all, the elephant in the room is the 200-300 million guns out there now. How are you going to retrofit them? In addition, a criminal is simply going to disable the GPS in any gun he acquires. I know a little about these things and they are not nearly as microscopic as you tend to believe. Also, they need a power source. Remove the battery and the GPS is dead. So any benefit from this device is going to go out the window. Anyone who keeps the GPS enabled is someone you don't need to worry about. Anyone who disables it you will not be able to detect.

Re: A Responsible Idea?
Come on guys.... why pussy foot around. Let's just put micro chips into people at birth.
For your own good of course!
And tell me, if you put a chip in gun, what's to stop a savvy person from taking it out?
And, like drugs, what's to stop someone from smuggling in un-chipped guns?
Just like microstamping, it's not a good idea. It's one of those 'silly regulations that invoke transparent evasions!"
