SKB O/U Shotguns?

Post by pbwalker »

I can't seem to find much online about these shotguns. I found a gentleman locally who is looking to trade me for my Ruger P-95 and he said it was about 18 years old.

Any input would be much appreciated!

An SKB is usually a pretty high end shotgun ($1500+). What model is it and what condition? Unless there is a lower end line I am not familiar with, either the guy doesn't know what he has, is just wanting a pistol and willing to trade as he doesn't use the shotgun, or it's stolen. ;-)

Here is a link to Able Ammo's main page with the three models they carry http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/default ... 3769_15846" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheaper than Dirt has a couple that are used in the $700 - $900 range http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/FreeAds/ ... ng=English" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'd snap it up before he changes his mind.

He's a 65 year old gentlemen who was in a car accident and can no longer hunt and needs a pistol for home defense. (This is what he has said via email)

I don't want to rip the poor guy off, but if his shotgun is collecting dust and he needs a pistol, and he's ok with the deal...then who knows. I'll try to find out more.

I like O/U shotguns. Not much of a auto Ruger fan. If the SKB is worth more and you don't want to "rip him off" give him some cash too. Someone else may not so generous.

Ok...found out more. It is an Ithaca by SKB Model 500. I guess Ithaca is to SKB like Squire is to Fender (from what I can see)...I have seen some of them go online for around $500, so I will add some cash to the transaction if I feel the shotgun is in good shape.

Anyone see any issues with this trade? I don't think I am getting ripped off and I'll be sure to make sure he doesn't either...

Well, I am the new owner of an SKB (Ithaca) Model 500 12ga. shotgun...looks like a beauty! I haven't taken pics yet (just got it 20 minutes ago and I am still at work) but I'll take some in the coming days. To give you an idea of what it looks like though, I found these:

Not only did SKB make Ithaca O/U's but they also made O/U's for Weatherby - maybe still do? That's a Greener Boxlock action, BTW.

I like my SKB 20.ga VR 26" O/U with variable choke inserts. I'd trade it for a quality 1911 sub-compact though.

:tiphat: I guess no one wants to trade a SKB 20 ga O/U for a compact 1911 OR a Springfield XD .45 Service model? :fire
