Okay, so I am driving my wife to the hopsital for the arrival of our son. I am getting ready and I strap on my glock to head out the door and my wife asks "Can you carry it in the hospital?" I reply yes and we pack the car and head out. We park in the emergency area and go in, I noticed a gun buster sign on the emergency entrance so we go in and make our way down the hall to the admin area on the other side of the hospital. As we are waiting for the elevator I notice on the main glass doors the 30.06 information posted...... I looked around as we waited for the elevator and the only person there was a security guard. I approached the doors to verify what I was looking at and sure enough it was the proper information but it was not on a contrasting background. It was white letters on a clear glass door and I didn't see it on the other door so it was posted on every entrance. Since we were kinda in a hurry I went up anyway. We were there for a couple of hours and she was admitted but would not have surgury until the next morning so I went home and was going to return in the morning. On the way out I reverified that there was not a 30.06 sign on the back door, which there wasnt and went home. I am pretty sure that I was LEGALLY covered but what do y'all think?

I've been in and out of the ER doors dozens of times, since they are the main entrance from 90% of the parking area. No postings at any of the ER doors. It turns out that there is the very poor, 1/2 inch tall lettering 30.06 sign on the front entrance sliding glass doors. if you can chase the moving door to read it, it is there. I asked a security guard about the posting on the single front entrance and none on any other and he was surprised it was even on the door. His opinion was "concealed means concealed", and there was no sign anywhere near the entrance I had been using for years.

Every situation is different though!

Legally you were not covered because the entrance you went in wasn't posted. You may have been covered if the posted sign didn't meat the standards required. The requirement is just they are posted with the proper 30.06 wording, and specs somwhere. (didn't you get your Psychics Union membership card with your CHL?) White letters on glass probably qualifies as contrasting since that is pretty commonly used.

I would hate to have to split hairs with a judge over the 1/2" vs. 3/4" or 1" lettering. I am not sure that there is any winning that argument without much grief and expense.

I am not saying that I think that you were wrong, just trying to answer your question .

I currently interpret the law as you were not legal while in the hospital this time, since it was properly posted. For this part of the law, all that is required is one posting in a conspicuous manner, not every door. You would have had a strong defense for a court case, and I would not arrest if someone showed me the door he had come in was the one normally used for things like his visit (emergency room door, etc.) and was not posted.

But, now that you have seen the sign on teh front door, you have definitely received notification. You woul dhave no defense or protection if you were caught now or on some future trip. And I could be wrong and courts may convict on the first like yours or set free every time. You never can tell what a court will do with any case.

I doubt you were legally covered...but, I don't blame you for wanting to carry in a Hospital. Those places will let anyone in the door
