WTS: S&W 329PD

Post by asleepatthereel »

This might need to be moved to the classified section, but I need to find out what would be a reasonable price or trade for this revolver. Image
I bought this in an estate sale and as far as I could tell, it had never been fired. I also got a NIB Bushmaster carbine and a S&W 340PD in .357. All three for $1500. Too good a deal to pass up, right?
My wife loves her new snubby (when its loaded with .38) and I have a new EBG for my stable. I wanted to see how the .44 behaved, so I took it to the range, and lets just say my hand still shows it. This thing packs a wallup! I really dont have any real use for the pistol, and I would like to trade it or sell it, but I have no realistic idea how much its worth. Ive seen prices range from around $900 to $1200 so I thought I would post it here among friends and see if anyone could give me the info.
As far as a trade goes, I wouldnt be interested in revolvers. Nothing wrong with them, we all know how dependable they are, I just like autos. I was thinking along the lines of EBGs or maybe hunting rifles.

Mods, please let me know if this post gets moved. I just wasnt sure where to post it. :txflag:

Edit: Almost forgot, also included was a Colt M1991 A1. Wish I could find more deals like that.

I moved it for you! I am just guessing and would say about $700. I have two of the 340PD and I bought those new. You might even get $800. I wished I had the funds. I bet it does have some recoil.

Thanks. I kind of figured it belonged here. I offered it to a friend of mine for 700 and he told me that was what a brand new one cost. I knew better, but couldnt convince him of it. I kind of figured it was worth between 7-800 dollars. As far as recoil, try putting out your hand and letting Lance Berkman have a swing at it :eek6

I wouldnt feel comfortable using it for a carry weapon, even though that is apparently what it was intended for unless using a lighter round than magnum, as I am thinking it would go right through someone, endangering innocents. I know this could happen with other handguns too, but in my opinion, the risk is greater with a magnum round. It would make a great guide gun though. Cant imagine a bear taking more than a few rounds without dropping.

This would be an ideal home defense pistol if loaded with a good .44 special round, perhaps in a +P. I want it badly. I just can't afford it.

NIB from Bud's is $816. Figure $835 or so with transfer fees.

Do you have the original box, papers, etc for the 329? And is it new enough to have the lock? Thanks!

No box or papers. It was an estate sale, and apparently the woman, who is a sister of someone who works with me, is afraid of guns and just wanted to get them out of the house. Her husband must have started a collection, because she is still finding some. I got an email from her this AM about a Weatherby she wants me to go look at, and get this, an H&K P7 along with six others. With the exception of an old SKS, all the guns I saw show very little signs of use, and there is no ammo for any of them to be found. Ill be taking a look at the rest, and any others she might find this weekend. Sort of an 'after the gun show - gun show' or vise versa.

The 329 in the picture is the actual gun. It didnt have the dark marks on the cylinder until after I took it to the range. I havent had time to find anything to clean it off completely yet, but Gunscrubber and bore cleaner didnt work completely.

I would have to agree about using .44 special in it. My hand is still sore. I couldnt imagine shooting all six quickly in a row. :cryin

If I were to sell it, it would have to be to someone with a CHL, FFL, or LEO retired or active. I wouldnt consider selling to anyone else with the possible exception of active Military.

I had one of these in .45 and it was fun to shoot.

I think Carlson1 has it now. Good luck with your sale.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything I want to give up right now. I already own a 5" Model 29 Classic. It's a beast, but it shoots real well, and it doesn't beat your hand up that badly.

Think Ill take it to the gun show this weekend and see what knid of bargaining power I can get with it. Of course, Id still let it go for $700. Same rules though. FFL, CHL or LEO only. Dont want to take a chance of this thing falling into the wrong hands.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the blast marks off the cylinder? Its Titanium, and has kind of a light sand blasted finish, and Ive tried like the dickens to clean it up and havent gotten anywhere. Had I known shooting it would have left the stains, I wouldnt have shot it, as I was more interested in selling it than keeping it. Tried Gun Scrubber, Bore Cleaner, even spraying break cleaner on a rag and wiping it. May just be there to stay I guess.
