Trip to Florida

Post by Bullitt »

I will be making an overland trip to FL. I will be crossing LA, MS, AL, GA, FL.

What are the caveats wrt to the laws regarding CHL?

Thanks in advance.

It appears that there is recprocity between here and FL, but I'd suggest you try to glance at each State's laws just so you know at least what to do in case of a traffic stop....I made a trip to Missouri last year, and each state has different requirements for what to do in a traffic stop. I would also probably go to the DPS site and carry the agreements for each state. I carried in PA a few years ago, and my brother is a local LEO. He was completely unaware of the reciprocal agreement with TX, and I'd expect that to be a common issue in a lot of small towns.

Once in FL, there are a few differences there. I carried there about 3 years ago, used to have a handle on all of them, but I don't recall some of the nuances -- though there weren't any things that I recall that were big issues. The biggest difference that is likely applicable to you as a tourist is you can't carry in the 'bar area' of a restaurant. It's not like here in TX where it's the establishment. There is also no 30.06 equivalent there, and I believe unless a location is off limits by statute, no sign is enforceable. I also don't think you have to notify a LEO when stopped for a traffic stop, but I'm not 100% certain of that.

There have been several threads on this. Using the search feature of the forum will help you find them. Here is the most recent one http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... &sk=t&sd=a" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have a safe trip!!

Strange how my search didn't show those threads. I did however google and found this site's resources. Pretty handy stuff http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry ... _maps.html No guarantee that the data is correct.
