Did some chrono work last night that some of y'all might find of interest.
Buddy who handloads carries a Sig 229 in .40. When I laid the barrels side by side a few weeks ago, his barrel was about 1/10" longer than barrel(s) for my new 29.
.40 180 grain handloads
Sig 229: 934 fps
G29/w Bar-Sto .40: 952 fps
.40 Speer Gold Dot, 165 grain
Sig 229: 1,116 fps
G29/w Bar-Sto .40: 1,142 fps
Just for a "same day comparision", I put Glock 10mm barrel back in the gun and ran 5 Double Tap Gold Dot 10mm 165s thru it. 1,279 fps.
The bottom line for last night's little session: (1) My "40 caliber Model 29" is a little faster than Buddy's "longer" Sig 229. (2) The Speer .40 loads out of the Bar-Sto barrel are only 137 fps slower than DT 10mm loads out of stock Glock barrel. And not nearly as snappy on the back side.

Kalrog - The only "stock Glock" barrel I have for the 29 is the 3.78"er in 10mm (the one that came in the gun). While I understand that some people do run .40s thru their 10mm barrels, I've avoided the temptation to do so. Below are the results I got a while back with 10mm Double Tap loads out of the stock barrel.
135 grain JHP: 1,481 fps
165 grain Gold Dot: 1,302 fps
180 grain Golden Sabre: 1,247 fps
200 grain XTP: 1,137 fps
220 grain cast: 1,028 fps
Braden - The only Double Tap loads I've ordered so far are the ones above in 10mm. In looking at the .40 loads on their web site, I don't think they would be that much faster, if any, out of the .40 Bar-Sto. Might try some next time I order from DT as their boxes of 50 are priced better than buying 20 per box of the Speers. UPS ain't real cheap from Utah tho ..
A hunting buddy who lives just 3 blocks from the range recently bought a used Glock 20 (like DT supposedly uses for most of their published fps.) Setting up the chrono is somewhat of a PIA, but we might do some more testing with it or someone else's G-20, 22, 23 or 27 one of these days ... Maybe about the time I've scraped up enough cash that The Wife does not need to know about to buy a 5 1/2" to 6" barrel in 10mm for the 29.
