My daughter has a young friend who has a old style single action revolver with a fixed front sight. His first handgun purchase. It is a nice, but basic piece in 45 Long Colt. It was dropped in a recent west Texas hunt when the jeep he was riding in hit a large pot hole hidden in a puddle. The pistol popped up out of the holster and landed on the front sight - bending the sight a bit and popping it out of the groove it was soldered into. When he told me what happened and asked me to look at it, the first thing I did when he arrived was school him on how to carry these type single action pistols as they have no transfer bar, drop safety etc. I was very impressed when he told me that he always carried it the old fashion way - load one, skip one, load four and then ease the hammer down on the empty chamber that should now be lined up with the chamber. And here I was thinking most young folks only cared amount the new high tech stuff.
Anyway, I am looking for a competent gunsmith in the west Houston area (maybe) that might do this kind of work at a reasonable price for a struggling student. The sight needs to be straightened (probably just heated up and beaten flat again), silver soldered back in the groove, and then possibly touched up with a matt black coating of some sort. I figured someone on this board is, or was, an SAS shooter and would know of a good smith that has done this sort of work before.
Thanks in Advance - TEX

That's a pretty specific job and I don't know of anyone for it. Ed Vanden Berg is great for 1911's, AR's and tactical shotguns, but I don't know that he does what you need. I guess it's worth a call and if he doesn't, he may be able to recommend someone.

Thanks Charles,
Yea, I thought of Ed - he has done some work on my 1911, but its a pretty good drive, etc. I guess I will e-mail him and ask if it something he can do.

A gentleman named Joe Grisafi runs Eagle 1 Gunsmithing. He's in the northwest at 9603 Arrowgrass, right where West Road meets the Beltway. I've met him, but never had him do any work for me. If he's not too far from you, he might be worth a call; his cell number is 713-553-5805.
Another possibility is Mike Moroch of Otherstuff Gunsmithing specializes in 1911s, but he does a variety of different types of handgun work, including revolvers, at reasonable prices. He's on the north side of town, so would probably be no closer to you than Ed Vanden Berg. his Website is http://www.mikemoroch.com/; phone 832-922-5874.
Jack L. Green is located off 290 just outside of Loop 610. I don't really know much about his work; 713-688-6899.
Teddy Jacobson is in Sugar Land and does excellent internal pistol work...but that's all he does; no external work or machining. (I included him just for future reference.) His Website is http://www.actionsbyt.com/.
Also in the southwest is Eddie Jimenea. He's in Stafford, but his specialty is competition 1911s and 2011s. In the past, he's generally had a pretty long backlog. So I kinda doubt this would be something for him; 281-499-4918 between 9:00 and 11:30 and 1:00 to 5:00 only.
And also just for future reference is Richard Freer. He specializes in shotguns, primarily Doubles and OUs, and is in Spring Branch between Bingle and Blalock; http://www.freergunshop.com/.
