Yeah unfortunately it's not uncommon for an outgoing admin to try and pass a bunch of stuff after election day. I believe there's a 60 day period before the "midnight" provisions become law, so if there's anything you want to stick after election day be sure to do it right after the election.

Re: Bush rulings reversed
From what I understand, since the law allowing concealed carry in national parks had already completed the rule making process and gone into effect, Obama will have to begin the entire rule making process over.
It is not one of those that he can just review and modify.

The DOI regulation change was final on 9 Jan - unless an Executive Order is made specifically changing it and not just the 'pending' regulations. Since a regulation change is accompanied by a lot of hours spent by Federal employees in writing, responding to comments, considering environmental and other social regulatory rules, and other such nonsense - the cost of which is in the high millions of dollars - doing it all over again because a President is antigun, is just fiscal irresponsibility in the face of it that the public has commented and the agency has determined that concealed carry does not impact parks safety.
Until someone can point to a press release from the White House or DOI that the 9 Jan regulation has been rescinded, it should be business as usual. Now - it is also time to take on the US Army Corps of Engineers and their 'no gun' regulations...!!!

President Obama didn't waste any time freezing all of the pending regulations of the Bush administration.
Almost immediately after Obama took the oath of office Tuesday, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel sent a memorandum to all agencies and departments, directing them to stop all pending regulations until a legal and policy review can be conducted by the new administration.
But Obama's inauguration came too late to stop some of Bush's most controversial regulations from being finalized.
"They were very successful at getting these controversial rules finalized before Jan. 20," said Rick Melberth, director of regulatory policy for OMB Watch. "This Emanuel memo doesn't deal with any of those."
It's unclear how many rules and regulations the Emanuel memo applies to, but it could be hundreds, Melberth said.
The Bush administration worked diligently to get its changes in place before Obama took over, moving into overdrive in the last year on a host of new regulatory proposals. In some instances, Bush advisers put the finishing touches on proposals in time to have them passed one day before Obama's inauguration -- federal law requires a 60-day waiting period before any major changes become law.
Those rules included a "right of conscience" law that allows medical providers to refuse to offer any practice they find morally objectionable, including abortion and other reproductive-health procedures.
Another regulation overturned a 25-year-old federal rule that severely restricted loaded firearms in national parks.
Bush also revised endangered species regulations to reduce the input of federal scientists and to block the law from being used to fight global warming.

Re: Bush rulings reversed
I wonder if this explains the extended comment period that this one underwent. Perhaps it was a move to get it delayed enough that it could not take effect by the magic day. At least it got through despite the delay.
Re: Bush rulings reversed
I don't believe this is going to amount to anything and States will continue define the rules. The rule change we now have was not initiated by President Bush but by a petition from our Senators. President Obama has claimed that he feels that the Americans have the right to bear arms, even though he feels that there should be certain limitations. The limitations that he has spellled out are. that certain citys and regions should be able make stricter rules. He believes that there should be and tougher rules on scary or ugly guns. Taking this on will surely be seen as more than reasonable restrictions. Public debate on this one will paint him as a gun grabber. While we all understand that he has ambitions as a gun grabber, changing rules take away his credibility for only wanting rid the world of evil black ugly guns and allowing citys and states the right to make their own rules to disarm the peasantry.

Re: Bush rulings reversed
Well, it only took half a day in office, and the intended message here is very clear...
Your guns, and the lives of the unborn are at extreme risk...The media made sure that message was delivered for this administration...
With the wave of his hand...
But I was not going to be surprised by any of this...Many of us knew this was coming...
What is ironic is that my Dad just left for his trip to Yellowstone yesterday...He was going to carry his handgun for lawfully intended purposes, but he caved...He decided it was too much of a hassle and didn't want to deal with all the hoops and hurdles of doing so...
I do not get very dissapointed about things, but this right here is one of them...
If anything happens to my Dad where he could have effectively defended himself in this regard...I am not going to be a happy camper...

Stevie what are you disappointed about. Its a false alarm. What hoops and hurdles? Your dad can still carry there if he has his Texas CHL. The media and Chicken Littles are just trying to shake us up. We can still conceal carry into federal parks just like we could last week, and we will continue to be able to carry into parks next week. Be prepared [abbreviated profanity deleted] these false alarms, and be on the look out for real threats. The Marxist are doing this intentionally. They want us to get weary of the calls for guns so that when the real thing comes up (loop hole AWB) no one will notice or care. Crying wolf too much is going to get us eaten up. Yes we all no Obama and Pelosi are going to come after us, but lets fight real fights not the imaginary ones.stevie_d_64 wrote:Well, it only took half a day in office, and the intended message here is very clear...

Let me tell you this, with Rahm Emanuel and Erik Holder on staff, they make Obama look like Rush Limbaugh. They are the most anti gun people on this earth. The changes have just begun.

Funny...I have thought the same thing Liberty. We need to be careful or we will create a self fulfilling prophecy.

Re: Bush rulings reversed
I understand what you are saying...I was dissapointed that my Dad caved, and decided due to the way this all sounded to him, to not include his firearm on this trip...
He was already heading to Love Field when he called me...
But correct me if I am wrong, I had thought (like others here) that the National Park restriction was removed, and that the Interior Department was slow in implementing the "correction", the Bush Administration was only trying to speed up the process with their push to do so last year...
The election just caught up to everyone, and the new administration and the media mis-represented the issue (no big surprise) in stating that it was putting that specific (National Park Carry) "correction" on hold, or under review...
In any event, the announcement got the desired effect...And we are certainly not going to get a retraction to clear up any abiguity from the administration or media...

Re: Bush rulings reversed
As I understand it, it got delayed from around November till January 9th. I believe the The Obama administration. just claimed to be reviewing the last minute rules changes. It looked to me that the msm were the ones that assumed what rules were being changed. I never saw any quotes from any Government officials stating that they were canceling the NP rules changes.stevie_d_64 wrote:I understand what you are saying...I was dissapointed that my Dad caved, and decided due to the way this all sounded to him, to not include his firearm on this trip...

I believe if we expect the Democratic administration to screw us over they will be more than willing to comply. We need to be alert with email addressses pen and paper with lots of stamps. Like our guns we have to know the proper time to clear leather and pull the trigger. Last time we conceded any ground to them they gave u the AWB without even a thank you Ma'am. The time will certainly come, but just not yet.
