Getting into the Gun Culture - NW Houston

Post by Purplehood »

I took my son shooting for the first time this past Sunday at ASC off of Westheimer & Hwy 6 in Houston.

He fired my full-size Glock 3 times and had enough of that.

He fired my AR-15 for 5 rounds (that was all I had loaded) with little comment.

He then fired my youngest brothers .22 Revolver for at least 30 rounds and pronounced that he wanted to "do this again". It looks like I have produced a convert.

Since he appears to enjoy shooting, and I am new to the gun-culture that this website has exposed me to, I am soliciting suggestions on what groups/organizations the two of us should look to join in the NW Houston area.

You might try to contact your local 4-H Chapter. The one in our area offers youth shooting.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Thomas Jefferson

I don't know how old your son is, but I recently introduced my son(13) to skeet shooting and he's getting a kick out of it(no pun intended). If you're in NW Houston, Hot Wells may be closer to you than ASC for whatever that's worth.

FYI, you might find Shiloh Indoor Shooting Range handy. They're at 12703 Shiloh Church Rd
Houston, Texas , Tel: (281) 520-1038. They're just east of Willowbrook Mall and just south of 1960.

I've found them to be pretty good. There's an IDPA group that gather there, too. At least as of my last visit way too long ago.

Also, give me a pm or email me at wa5ac at ARRL dot com & maybe we can go together. I've a couple of 22's your son may enjoy shooting plus some a wee bit bigger. No .500s! ;-)
God Bless Ya'll !
