B of A won't accept TX CHL as ID

Post by jamullinstx »

I am loathe to show anyone my CHL as an ID, but I needed a cashier's check from my Bank of America account today to, what else, buy a firearm. The clerk said she needed a 2nd ID besides my TX DL, and the only other picture ID I have is the TX CHL. I gave it to her, reluctantly, and she wouldn't accept it. I tell her that I have no other picture IDs, and she says, that's O.K., all she needs is a credit card or utility bill. I asked how those are identification. She responded that they are simply on their list of approved IDs. I asked why they won't accept another picture ID issued by the state of Texas, and she just responds that they aren't on their approved list.

I wouldn't normally want to give my CHL as ID, anyway, but this seems like subtle politics by B of A.

My wife used to work for security service federal credit union. You may not believe this, but they would not accept a United States Passport as a valid form of ID. Apparently they created the list several years ago and forgot to list it. They never got around to updating the list. As of 6 months ago (when she quit) it still wasn't on the list.

Actually it is quite common as shown on other threads. As I understand it many places of business and governmental entities do not consider it as a valid ID. Doesn't mean it is right, just common.

I was in Florida Week before last. We went to the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola. When entering the base, you have to show ID. I showed my DL and they sent me on in.

Once we had seen the Blue Angel's practice, we went inside for awhile. My wife found a hot air balloon pendant in the gift shop that she wanted. She had locked her purse in the vehicle, so I had to pay (as usual LOL.) When I gave the lady in the gift shop my debit card, I have 'See ID' on the name line instead of signing it. That way they should request an ID from me. She did, and I then realized my DL was in the console of the car. :banghead: The only other photo ID i had was my CHL. I told her the license was accidentally left in the car and I took out my CHL and showed her that. She took about 1/2 a second and says 'That works!' and rang up the purchase. So apparently, Federal Government facilities will accept it as valid ID.

In a previous thread, it was concluded that even though the CHL is a license, its still not considered a valid ID. Its considered a supplemental document. Their is even a bill in this session so that you don't have to show your CHL to LEOs anymore, but some of us still will.

I wonder - was the saleslady a Federale or an employee of a vendor? I don't guess it matters inasmuch as you were served.

Do you think that BofA would take this guy's driver license? http://www.barking-moonbat.com/index.ph ... _the_week/

As far as BoA, Security Service Fed CU, or pretty much any place else that chokes on a CHL as an ID, I seriously doubt it is the case that any of them looked at CHLs and said, "Nay verily, It does not Qualify as an ID." I think it is much more the case that whoever originally made up the list never even thought of CHLs, so didn't put them on the list, and after that the clerks and tellers are just following orders -- "if it ain't specifically on the list, we can't accept it". (E.g, see above post on the Passport -- that's a hoot.).

As far as a CHL being "not an ID, just supplemental" -- phooey. It is a (state) government issued ID, contains most of the same data elements as the driver's license (including driver's license number), and has a photo. (and it certainly has more verification as to your identity behind it!)

I am somewhat bemused by the bills this session adding CHL to the list of IDs accepted at polling places. It clearly meets the criteria for ID'ing oneself at the polls: "a form of identification containing the person's photograph that establishes the person's identity;" and just to tidy things up for any knotheaded elections administrators, the Secretary of State could have fixed this with a letter that estabishes CHLs as "any other form of identification prescribed by the Secretary of State."

As an election clerk I certainly took CHLs as ID, because it clearly met the letter and spirit of the law. I rather wish the legislature spent its time on other bills...

I would bet a buffalo nickle that BofA accepts a Consular Matricular card issued from any Mexican Consulate office as a second ID...

I know! Funny, since you can't carry at a polling place.

With my TX DL at home, I have used my TX CHL as ID at the TSA Security Checkpoint at both DFW and Las Vegas. It was accepted without comment or hesitation. My Wells Fargo branch also accepts it. I would suspect in the cases cited in the above posts, the individual employee does not have a choice in what they accept.

My DL got lost at a citibank drive thru 1 day :banghead: and I was forced to use my CHL for photo ID for a couple of weeks until my new DL arrived. I bought beer, cigarettes and ammo with it with no problems.

I believe that the requirement is a picture ID issued by the state. Last time I checked a CHL was a picture ID issued by the state no different than a drivers license that is issued by the state. I would have asked for a Manager.

They probably would accept it as the only ID. Wasn't BoA opening accounts for illegals without a valid SSN?
