How many rounds?

Post by 74novaman »

How many are you carrying daily? I have a PT145, 10+1, but the 24/7 magazines which are 12 round capacity will fit, so depending on if I carry the 12 or normal 10 round actually in the gun, I think I'll wind up carrying 22 or 23 rounds total of .45acp with one spare mag.

How about you guys?

Once I get my CHL, I will most likely carry at least 1, possibly 2 spare mags.

So, for me, thats either 15 or 22 :)

Or If I really wanted to get crazy, I could carry 10 round spare single stacks in addition to the 7+1
Giving me 28, because once it's drawn, and you're reloading, who cares how far your mag sticks out of the frame :rolll

Only problem with those 10 rounders is their reliability... :grumble

I wonder if I could could fit one of these on my belt:

I carry one extra mag with my Ruger LCP/ CZ P-01 and 2 speed loaders when i pack the snubbie. I elect for pocket carry and am not willing to buy a new wardrobe to accommodate more than 2 additional mags, so I live with packing less. Now in the winter I have baggier clothing so I carry my CZ which holds 14. Oh to answer the questions, it would be 12 rounds for the LCP, 15 for the snubbie, and 28 for the CZ.

Glock 27, daily carry, 9+1.
15 x 2 spare mags always unless using the fanny pack. It only has a spot for one spare mag.

Total = 40

:iagree: All of that extra lead gets heavy plus it will probably all be over by the time the first mag/cylinder has been expended - one way or another. Remember, we're neither the marines/airborne nor are we the law. We're just Texas CHL holders trying to protect/defend ourselves and our loved ones. :txflag:

True. True.

I may look back when I'm 90 and wonder why I carried that many, but I doubt it. Just the same way I hope to look back when I'm 90 and can still say I've never fired my weapon in anger.

What's our motto, "Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."

Oh I well understand that. What if that one magazine you're carrying starts malfunctioning after a shot or two? Seems wise to have a backup.

I know that the 1st rule of a gunfight is bring a gun....2nd rule should be bring enough ammo!

Do I plan on needing 23 rounds? NO.
Would I rather have 23 then shoot 7 times, hear click, and see a threat still coming at me? Yes.

Obviously those are just my own opinions, and worth exactly what you paid for them. ;-) :txflag:

And I wouldn't look down on or question anyone who carried less or be jealous of anyone carrying more. It's just like the choice to carry at all and which weapon and method of carry. It's personal and up to each of us to make that decision.

:iagree: Not trying to start anything negative, I was just curious what others found worked for them and what they were comfortable with. :tiphat:

One full spare reload is my rock bottom minimum, and at least 2 when going into dicey areas, off the beaten path, or traveling.

Multiple offenders are common in robbery situations, and bad guys aren't always instantly disabled by hits (let alone misses) like they are on TV. The number of rounds a reasonable person would consider a good idea goes up pretty quickly when you start taking these things into account.

I've never seen a case where someone died from having too much ammo. Can't say the same about too little.

when i carry, i plan to carry the extra mag that came with the gun. thats 21 rounds. i have a black nylon pocket knife holder that the spare mag fits in perfectly. it goes on your belt.....i say if you have it , put it to use, it doesnt do me any good if i leave it at home.

Depends, On road trips I carry car gun and hip gun complete with 1 spare mag for each gun.
Most times I carry with just a gun on the hip. If I have the car gun I have a spare mag with it. My mags are all 15 rounders

:tiphat: , point well taken. With all due respect, this mature (old) Texas CHL holder is not the law and really has no business knowingly going into dicey areas or looking for shootouts. I'll grant you two mags/cylinders minimum carry.

All you younger ninja warriors should carry whatever amount of ammo that makes you comfortable as you go about your rounds.
