Remington ISP 12Ga. SBS

Post by T45Rex »

Does anybody own or know anything about the quality of the Remington ISP side by side line of shotguns. They are made by Baikal Arms of Russia "to Remington specifications" They are relatively inexpensive but how is the quality? I know it wouldn't be a Weatherby or Browning but for perspective, I would be using it primarily as a field gun rather than putting hundreds of rounds through it at the skeet range! Guess this means is it tight, clean, and do the barrels pattern to the same point of aim? Any experience or opinion out there? Thx.

I have a couple of friends that bought into the Baikal o/u craze several years ago. It seems that the guns then were having both firing pin problems and lock-up problems. I think all of the guys I knew (at least 3) have since traded the Baikal's away. There were a couple of semi-auto shotguns that Remington was farming out to Baikal a few years ago, but I don't know what became of that deal.

I have searched for the "inexpensive" way out on double guns, and it just don't exist if you are a "shot gunner'. I don't shoot as much now as a couple of years ago, then I was on the very low end of the shell count numbers for a sporting clay shooter. Maybe two to three hundred rounds per week, and a bit more just prior to and during bird season. After a few short years of that there wouldn't be enough gun left from an "inexpensive gun" to hand down to my grandson (the little vulture has to approve every gun acquisition to add to his future inventory list).

If you follow gun sites much, you've heard it hundreds of times by now regarding firearms purchases .... if you can get a cheap one for three hundred bucks, and a better one for five hundred bucks.... save a little longer and get the $1000 gun that you'll reall be proud of and feel good about shooting. Chances are that it will last as many years as you will be able to shoot.

Just my rambling opinions

Thx! Yea, I agree and as a general rule don't go cheap on a gun. I saw these on sale at a really good price and I enjoy occasionally taking a double out to the dove tank, but believe I will just stick to the Browning auto for now until I eventually aquire a really nice dbl. I was not familiar with the brand and thought it might be a nice but cheap purchase for what I intended though I do know u get what u pay for in the gun world as a general rule. Especially these days. On those lines, have u noticed that the guns we used to consider "extremely well built no frills" and therefore less expensive such as Ruger are now outrageous, the top end stuff is completely out of sight or nonexistent, and the less expensive lines available now with very few exceptions are now "cheap" as opposed to "inexpensive"! One would think there would be enough market there that someone would fill that slot that companies like Ruger used to fill. There are a few, but not many. Perhaps some enterprising Texas gunsmith will figure a way flip off the federal laws by marketing only in Texas and come up with a line of "Texas working man" guns! Quality to last through the grandkids on a common folk budget! :-) Nice thought. Anyway, glad to hear your grandson is fixed and appreciate the response.
