What's The Best Gun Trade You've Ever Made?

Post by joe817 »

Another thread from Attila about Collector Firearms gave me this idea.

I'm sure most of you can think of one. I have one in particular...actually several that I had made over the years that come to mind...but one in particular. It was a crazy, funny deal. But I'll save that for later, after the thread starts...if it does.

What was the best/most interesting/most beneficial(in your mind)/most aggravating trade you've ever made?

Ok I'll get the obvious humor out of the way right from the start.

I got a gun for my wife.... best trade I ever made. :biggrinjester:

I once traded a circular saw (I had 3 by happenstance) for a 3 inch S&W Model 19 that had an ugly beat up finish but ran like a swiss watch (fired every time and would keep 6 in the 10 ring at 10 yards)

I traded a Springfield 1911 and a bit of cash to a dealer for a Colt Sauer .30-06 rifle. The original stock had been cut down by the previous owner, who was apparently close to my size, and it fits me as if it were custom-made for me. It was too short for the other store customers who recognized what it was, & so was sitting in the store for some months.

It's got the classic Colt bluing, and the action is as smooth as melted butter, and almost as quiet.

The Springfield was a good pistol, but I don't miss it. And I won't part with the Colt Sauer.

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

No trade, but the best purchase I ever made was my Wilson Combat Protector (used but not shot) and the 2nd best was my Ed Brown Kobra Carry (new, before last year's price increase)........ :clapping:

Only time I ever traded was the Bersa .380 for my current carry gun; Taurus 605. Five rounds of .357 makes me feel more confident in its stopping ability than 7 of .380 did.

i traded my Bersa .380 when the ammo became impossible to find. it was actually a pretty decent little gun...
i do feel more confident with a .45 :fire
but a small .380 does make for a good BUG

I traded a Keltec P32 for a pair of electronic earmuffs. The gun had been back to Keltec... twice. Still would not feed reliably and NEVER once would feed the last round out of the magazine.

The earmuffs lasted about a year before they quit. I still think I made a good trade.

Best trade...

Buddy just had to have a 38-55 M94 Commemorative at a pawn shop. Based upon the pawn brokers reaction to trades - I traded my bud a 38 Spec FIE derringer for his CVA flintlock kit (the pawn broker REALLY wanted the derringer). He traded his "new" derringer for the M94 he wanted. Too bad the derringer would only fire about 50% of the time. If the poor misunderstood youth who subsequently bought it used it to stick up a liquor store, he may have had a really bad day. :smilelol5:

Worst trade...

M97 Win pump 12 ga for a Springfield version of the Savage 750AC auto shotgun. Traded with my Dad - he had the Savage and a buyer for the M97. That was back around 1974 or so (I was still in HS).

It worked fine (as any A5 clone should) and I shot it a good little bit, but it was still a Savage. Gag. Worse yet, a cheap Savage. With a Savage version of a Poly-Choke.

I STILL wish I had that M97 back.

I traded in a fickle, unreliable Sig GSR Carry Stainless 1911 which jammed on about every 3rd round plus some cash for my Kimber UCII, which I love and runs flawlessly.

I traded my S&W Sigma for a Ruger P95 (ugliest gun I have ever owned) which I traded one week later for an SKB 12ga O/U.
Also, I just traded an Armalite AR-7 for a Ruger 10/22 which I *may* be on the short end of the stack, but I really wanted a 10/22. I, too, traded my Bersa .380 for a Taurus PT145 which I just traded for a Chinese Military SKS. I just can't stand the triggers on the Taurus Semi's.

Not sure if these were good trades, but they made me happy!
